mattlucas 0
This will be my first time re-gluing skins My skins are 1st generation G3 and they are pretty dirty. Bare patches all over as well. Does it matter that I bought Black Diamond glue? Anybody have any tips? I'm going to have a look over on TGR.com but want all the advice I can get so that I don't glue my hand to my penis or something like that
Fattwins 0
ive never had to reglue mate. I dont think different glue matters. Ive seen people doing a reglue on the mountain. I dont think that is smart though.

SerreChe 2
Bottles of beers (one for the re-glue the other ones for drinking) Walmart-style heavy duty brown paper bags and you should be up and running. After the glue is applied, make sure you smell your skins across their entire length to make sure it has been done properly. After that, once you're done, you will not really care whether you've done it properly since you'll be either wasted or as high as .... Never done it, but read it a while ago, probably similar in FT's link. Will try to dig the link...
SerreChe 2
OK, here's a summary: To recoat skins with glue: Lay skin flat on a firm surface with glue side up. Lay strips of brown paper bags on top of the skins. Run a hot iron (cotton setting) over the paper, this removes most of the glue. Pull paper bag strips off while still warm. Using an old putty knife, scrape way any glue that is left. Clean the putty knife. Apply a thin, even and covering coat of glue with the putty knife to the clean skins. Allow the skins/glue to dry at least 24 hours. Do your best to keep the glue off the fur. Or pay your local shop to do it (preferred). mattlucas 0
Well I tried to get the glue off Found some brown Omiyage bags in a cupboard I cut them into strips Layed them on the floor Put the skins glue side down on them Ironed Ironed Ironed Ironed Peeled up to realize that the skin was stuck to the brown paper and had made them even dirtier. Turned the paper over Ironed Ironed Ironed Ironed Peeled it away and a lot of the glue stayed on the paper but a lot didn't. Now I don't have any more paper bags. I wondef if carboard would work I shoul dhave taken pictures to doccument each step

mattlucas 0
My grocery store only has plastic bags Why thinner? Do they have paper bags for lunches and stuff like that in this country?
Fattwins 0
i think thinnermight absorb more is all. I think regular paper will work as well or better yet, waxing paper from your ski shop. Or paper towels.
mattlucas 0
Paper towels will rip and get gummed up in the wax making it even dirtier Need something thick that doesn't rip What are waxing papers?
mattlucas 0
Yes I think I'll try just wax paper Thanks for all the advice guys
Fattwins 0
wax paper is used to help transfer the wax more evenly into the skis base. also you have less wasted wax. it is strong enough to do the job that you want to do.
mattlucas 0
It's just normal wax paper?
Fattwins 0
I buy it at the local shop it lasts forever really. http://www.skibuckmans.com/product_view.php?age=&category=112&subcategory=144&id=1112 there are different types but it depending on the type it should be strong enough
mattlucas 0
I'm gonna try normal wax paper tonight and if that doesn't work then I'll drive out to my store tomorrow and give that a go
