bungle 0
i want to be on the (real) slopes in the fastest time possible from tokyo station. where do i go and how long does it take. from what i have read, that place galayuzawa seems to be winner.
7-11 2
Thats probably the fastest. You can literally be on the snow in less than 90 minutes. It might be the quickest, but its not the cheapeast I wouldnt think - it costs about 6000 yen on the Shink one way to the gala station.
Wizz 11
lets (not) gala
CubedOne 0
Whats the quickest, bestest place in Nagano from Tokyo then, Japan-peeps?
bobby12 0
karuizawa, its got a shinkansen station with the slope right outside. never been there in winter though.
bungle 0
Thanks!
scouser 4
I don't think Karuizawa's much cop really - better off in Yuzawa I reckon.
scouser 4
Forgot.....add 20 minutes or so to get up to the best place in the area, Kagura. (about 15-20 mins to the Mitsumata ropeway).
Wizz 11
I've only ever seen Karuizawa in the summer, but it doesn't look particularly exciting. (I'm being kind).
grungy-gonads 54
Get the shink to Yuzawa. Get the bus from the station to Kagura. Best case, just less than 100 minutes from Tokyo to Mitsumata Ropeway. It has been done, you've got to get the bus timings just right!
oo 1
What about car trips? I know about Yuzawa and Hakuba, but any good car trips that are fairly close I dont know about, maybe. Gunma always seems so convenient, but many of the resorts are a drive from the expressway so take longer than you might think.
grungy-gonads 54
Tried driving up to Hunter Mountain last season. It makes a decent change, and a different drive too.
