Tubby Beaver 209
On saturday the weather was fantastic in and around Sapporo and a few mates and me decided to go camping around Shikotsuko, a lake about an hours drive from Sapporo….and very beautiful it was too. We were meeting up with Mag Seven, Mrs Mag Seven and a few of his mates as well. the lake was a bit cloudy and choppy, surprising because it wasn't windy at all, but it makes it look more like the sea, than a lake! I woke up early this morning, about 6am, after the previous nights fun and festivities around the BBQ to relieve the pressure a bit on my bladder, but it was such a nice view that I decided to just stay up and enjoy the morning. The lake had turned very glassy and the clarity of the water was unbelievable Toshi trying to catch breakfast…..needless to say we ate sausages!! What a beautiful part of the country for sure, good times with some great people

NoFakie 45
Lovely spot! I've been, but only the once and it was in winter. I think we went to the onsen, car camped nearby and drove along the road that goes round the lake. We had some vague plans to do a camping trip in Hokkaido this summer but my missus got a full-time job and it ended up a non-starter. With the weather this year, it wouldn't have been such good timing to do it anyway.
snowdude 44
It is very nice I went there in June a few years ago now and loved the place, very beautiful and peaceful.

Tubby Beaver 209
Yes it is! Mt Eniwa is the mountain at the opposite end if the lake...altho I don't think its in my pics
MagSeven 40
Nice pics Tubby, cracking weekend eh. Eniwa is the one right opposite where we were camping. By your left elbow in the last pic, to the right of Toshi fishing, and in a few of the others. It's an awesome hike, here's the view of the lake from near the top. You can just see the stretch of beach where we camped at the very top right part of the shoreline, before it goes behind the mountain's ridge.

Go Native 70
I love Shikostuko. Amazing lake. Supposedly the 2nd deepest in Japan. And I think it's the northern most lake in Japan that doesn't freeze over in winter.
Tubby Beaver 209
I was told the same thing....it's the northernmost lake that doesn't freeze
