grungy-gonads 54
That first Time Machine backup took ages. It was 130GB so I suppose that's to be expected. Can't wait for the imac to come. That's when I really start the transition from Windows proper.
634-maru 4
Time machine is useful but there are plenty of other programs that do the same thing. But if you want an all Apple set up, then... Wait for it... What does the same thing on PC as elegantly as Time Machine?
RobBright 35
Genie Timeline.

muikabochi 208
I like that idea. Do you use that software Man in Japan?
klingon 10
Interesting that Man I have downloaded and started a backup. At 400GB, I reckon it might take just a bit of time!
RobBright 35
I like that idea. Do you use that software Man in Japan? Yep, I have too many pictures worth losing. Funnily enough, it was when I started using a mac at work I tried to find something similar for pc and that was recommended to me by the work IT guy. Very simple to use too. As easy as time Machine. grungy-gonads 54
Good tip. I downloaded that and am backing up my pc as well. Currently 11% done in 6 hours!
grungy-gonads 54
38% after 24 hours!! Only another 2.5 days then! Do these backups work as they are supposed to and easily? I can't quite believe I haven't done them like this before.
klingon 10
Mine is still running too! maybe by this time tomorrow!
klingon 10
man, do you have the genie software run all the time and open automatically when start computer?
RobBright 35
Let me check when I get home. I think it is on a schedule to autoback up, but will double check; however, the initial backup took a long time, much longer than expected.
klingon 10
OK But presumably, the software needs to be 'open' all the time to do that? Keen to know. My backup is still on 55%, taking forever!
grungy-gonads 54
Mine is still battling away at 50%. Looks like it will take until Wednesday to finish at this rate. Only 760,000 more files to backup! If only I was good at housekeeping I bet that would be much smaller. But I'm not.
grungy-gonads 54
It seems to be going slower if anything! On 68% now. My iMac should be thinking about shipping in the near future. Can't wait to get that baby.
muikabochi 208
When's it due gg?
grungy-gonads 54
On my order it says delivery between 20th-24th December.
grungy-gonads 54
90%! Where you up to klingon?
klingon 10
I'm on 94% now. Not long to go! Taken AGES!
RobBright 35
Forgot to say, mine is on once a week backup.
grungy-gonads 54
I see. This is odd. I'm stuck on 95% for the last few hours with no new files being saved and the number of pending not changing. The good news is that my iMac is "preparing for shipment"
grungy-gonads 54
Man, did you have any issues with it near the end of the first main backup? I'm getting stuck a lot. It seems to just stay on one file. Close it down and reopen and I'm down to 10000 files that need backing up but it's getting annoying. There seems to be no support or troubleshooting about what to do if it "sticks".
klingon 10
Actually had a few things like that happen to me as well gg. What I did to get it finished was take out the HDD usb. It kind of kicked it back into action once it was re-connected.
grungy-gonads 54
Just got a mail from Apple, iMac leaving China today and should be with me on Sunday. 4-8 days quicker than the original estimate. I'm still having a right mare trying to get this PC backup thing to finish up.
