KlingKlang 1
I have a question and was wondering if anyone could tell me. You know how you can make calls from skype to telephones? On my au iphone there's the skype thing. If I am using 3G (ie. not wifi) and I try to make a call to the US or UK, for example, can I do that without any other charges other than the time I use on skype (as per doing it on PC)? Or is that outside of the unlimited data thing I have going on? Cheers.

Tubby Beaver 209
Skype's website says its "free calls over wifi or 3G" but restrictions apply and I can't seem to find those restrictions
KlingKlang 1
Me too, but it just struck me that it would be cool to be able to use it anywhere not just on wifi.... Anyone?
Thundercat 60
I use it all the time on my phone and I've never had any extra charges.

I need to do this too but [newbie alert:- stupid comment coming up!] where do I find Skype on my shiny new iPhone or do I have to download it like I did on my pc??
Chriselle 158
Yep. It's an app. I use Skype over 3G on my iPhone 4. No problem.

KlingKlang 1
Just to be clear: I am talking about calling a telephone number, overseas, using skype 3g. (ie. not typing chat and not another person on skype). Still free? Thanks.
Slippery Jim 65
You have to set up a Skype account and pay for non-Skype connections. To the U.S. it runs about a penny per minute. I use Paypal to keep a deposit with Skype and replenish it with 1000 yen every six months or so.
KlingKlang 1
Yes I know about having to pay Skype for calling to a phone. I do it on my computer often. I need to know if I can do that without incurring any "data" costs in addition to that.
Saitaman 1
I'm so glad I read this. It didn't occur to me that I could do this!

klingon 10
Mine always seems to refresh 1500 yen, can I set that amount? Not that it really matters.
Slippery Jim 65
I don't know; it may be that mine also refreshes 1,500 at a time (I don't really watch closely). Have been on the phone a lot the past two weeks, so I should be seeing a tickover soon.
snowbender 3
Mine refreshes at 1500 yen, I think it's the default.
