Looks familiar but cant place a name to it. Will put on my thinking cap

Tsugaike Kogen

That it is. Named after (and co-developed by the owners of) Hunter Mountain ski area in New York, USA.   Over to you, Muikabochi.

To review:

I think this might be a relatively easy one. Though I've been wrong before:

Decided to try a DiGriz-style google earth 3-D terrain-mapped shot.

Actually there is an Apple Maps version. It probably gives too much away (sorry Metabo) but here it is:

In case pie-eater's hint wasn't enough, here is a view of the mountain from the opposite side.

(But don't look down, it might be scary.)

Big, fat, glow-in-the-dark clue:

The view from on-hill:

Another angle from on-hill:

And yet another:

Here is a view towards the back side of the mountain:

Ski area is on far side of the peak with a tower on it, the peak seen in the notch between two nearer peaks here.

Some more views from the far side:

A fearsome place.

Hint: ひらがな

Hint: it is not very near any expressway.

Mutsu-shi Kamafuseyama in Aomori

MagSeven gets it!

Mutsu-shi Kamafuseyama Ski Area, the northernmost ski area on Honshu, which faces Mutsu Bay.

It is in Aomori prefecture which is, of course, famous for its lighted Nebuta festival floats.

On the other side of the mountain behind it is Osorezan (Fear Mountain), traditionally considered an entrance to the Underworld, where one can still consult mediums (Itako) who communicate with the dead.

It is located in Mutsu-shi (むつ市), which was the first city in Japan to adopt an all-hiragana name.

Good job, and take it away, MagSeven!

Gotta love the Japanese definition of "famous". Is there any place in Japanese that is not famous? :happyshades:
