muikabochi 208
Some incredible colours in countryside Niigata today. We went up to one of my favourite area Yamakoshi again. Got lost on one of those roads that gradually gets narrower are you get further into the mountains until it's a dirt track... and then it abruptly ends. Totally in the middle of nowhere. Among the fab colours are the Yamakoshi bullfighting ring, and the tiny Koshi Kogen ski-jo, looking all ready for the season! http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resort_map.php?resortNo=

sanjo 2
Nice muika, you'll have to show me round there one time you seem to know it well. Beatiful weather this weekend.
grungy-gonads 54
What kind of bullfighting to they do there? Not spears and stuff like in Spain? Pretty pics as usual.
joshnii 2
Reminds me of War of the Worlds!
muikabochi 208
No spears. I have never seen it other than on tv clips. The guy we spoke to said..... "friendly fighto".
mitchpee 10
Awesome Muika, great pics as always. Keep up the work man!
2pints-mate 0
Whats all the writing for on the bullring place?
muikabochi 208
It's the village that was really torn apart by the earthquake 6 years ago. They are all messages of support and love for the place.
rach 1
Looks such a pretty area. Is that near to where you live muika?
muikabochi 208
About an hour country road drive I'd say, maybe a bit less.
Ezorisu 0
Very nice pics again! Were you on foot/bicycle/car going up that road? Forgive me as I'm not at all familiar with the area.
muikabochi 208
Oh car all the way
Ezorisu 0
Thanks! Just curious. I was walking all the heck around the Koya-san/Ryujin-onsen/Kumanokodo corridor in September, so my mind is still in "hike" mode.
muikabochi 208
No, walking was kept to a minimum. We sat out and ate something overlooking some of that lovely scenery. Then drove down to Nagaoka and had a huge meal.
Ezorisu 0
Any insects about? If not, it would be nice to take a bento up there and enjoy the colors. What are the water reservoirs for? Have you ever gone to the little ski-jo? (sorry, I'm just so full of questions today!)
muikabochi 208
A few insects flying around mainly tombo I think. Nothing to annoy. Water reservoirs = rice fields Not been to the skijo. I think it was closed for a few years due to earthquake damage but there was a newish building there so looks like it's up and running again. Only time. Wouldn't mind going actually. Support the Yamakoshians.
Ezorisu 0
Cheers! Again, great pics. I especially like the ones with the susuki in the foreground.
muikabochi 208
Thanks. Yes, I like sususki. I like trees too. You might have noticed.
Ezorisu 0
Just a little.
muikabochi 208
Some interesting person actually PM'd me a year or two back complaining of the tree photos. That made me laugh! Still does thinking about it. What a fool.
Ezorisu 0
Weird. When the snows arrive, take a bunch of featureless, two-dimensional pictures of flat snow and post about 6 of them in a thread titled, "the snow has arrived!" Maybe that'll make that person happy! muikabochi 208
I think his point was the pics were 'not worthy' because they weren't gnarly action shots. I just told him not to look. Actually, no I think I just ignored him, the fool.
muikabochi 208
I know very little about it, but tomorrow night there is some drama on Japanese tv, 9pm until 11:03pm (exactly!), that seems to be set in Yamakoshi. I'll be watching coz I just love that place. You may recall it was the little village that got devastated by the Chuetsu earthquake in 2004. http://www.snowjapanforums.com/index.php/topic/20293-yamakoshi-niigata-4th-may-2011/ Famous for rice fields, bull fighting and koi carp. http://www.mbs.jp/hanayome/ Hopefully there will be lovely scenery at least.
