grungy-gonads 54
I just recently got an all region dvd/blu-ray player sent from overseas. This one, in fact OPPO BDP-83. I'm blown away with how brilliant it is. Superb. Not the cheapest out there but it plays all dvds and all blu-rays and it plays them magnificently. Highly recommended. RobBright 35
Without sounding stupid, how does the picture/sound compare to your ps3?
grungy-gonads 54
I would say - quite a lot better. The machine is silent and instant. Incredible picture. I was on the fence, but I took the dip and glad I did. Will be buying a fair few BluRays now I think.

pie-eater 207
OK here's a question --- if I have a Japanese PS3, what Blu-Rays can I play? I have tried some DVDs on mine and they don't seem to work, but I use my region free DVD player for that so not so fussed. Bloody nuisance anyway isn't it.

grungy-gonads 54
What does that mean then Jynxx?
Jynxx 4
I was wondering if you need a good telly to make the most out of it. Like my telly isn't good enough to display the resolution you get from Blu-ray?
thursday 1
you need at least 1080p otherwise, no point.
grungy-gonads 54
I would say you need a good sized full HD screen to bother with it. And the Blu Ray itself needs to be good. Some are lazy transfers.

Region 1: North America, South America, East Asia except for China (India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia etc.) Region 2: Europe and Africa Region 3: China, Russia and other countries Per Wiki: Region code Area 0 Informal term meaning "worldwide". Region 0 is not an official setting; discs that bear the region 0 symbol either have no flag set or have region 1–6 flags set. 1 United States, Canada, Bermuda, U.S. territories 2 Europe (except Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus), Middle East, Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, Greenland 3 Southeast Asia, South Korea, Republic of China (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Macau 4 Mexico, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Oceania 5 Afghanistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Africa (except Egypt, South Africa, Swaziland, and Lesotho), Central and South Asia, Mongolia, North Korea 6 People's Republic of China, Hong Kong 7 Reserved for future use (found in use on protected screener copies of MPAA-related DVDs and "media copies" of pre-releases in Asia) I noticed a helluva difference when I bought my new telly and blue ray. Even when I play xbox games vs blue ray there is a very noticeable difference. I compared by using Avatar. The colors in that movie are one of the best color testers out there Id imagine. 8 International venues such as aircraft, cruise ships, etc. ALL Region ALL discs have all 8 flags set, allowing the disc to be played in any locale on any player.
