I think it deserves far more coverage than its getting. The reporting is all "it's not serious", and then "this didn't work but we've got this", "now we're going to try this" type piecemeal "its under control" type reassurances, when the truth is that there is a gaping hole deep below the sea that is spewing huge amounts of oil and will continue spewing huge amounts of oil for quite some time. If the stuff about BP cutting safety corners is true, they deserve to go under. It doesn't matter what it does to peoples' pensions. Link to post Share on other sites
Go Native 70 Posted June 16, 2010 Share Posted June 16, 2010 It's not that they cut corners so much as they only met the minimum safety standards that Bush had brought in. Bush being the big supporter of oil that he was reduced safety requirements to make it cheaper for companies to exploit oil in places the Gulf. They are certainly standards way below what would be expected of say rigs in the North Sea. Obama didn't change the safety requirements when he came into office but I dare say that may change now.
