NoFakie 45
....by Citigroup to some Malaysians. It sounds like they must have made a loss, especially because the hotel's been refurbished. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTOE62901D20100310
Hokkaidough 4
Quote: Niseko Village, sold for 6 billion yen ($67 million), is popular with Chinese and Australian skiers and a mecca for domestic snowboarders due to its quality powder snow. Located on the northern island of Hokkaido, the resort features two hotels, including a 506-room Hilton Hotel, two golf courses, ski trails and natural hot springs. YTL said in a statement it plans to expand residential areas and ski-in ski-out estates, as well as restaurant and retail facilities. Higashiyama is the old name, it's Village now. thursday 1
I think the Hilton will still run it. Can't see any Malaysians running it. They can't even run their own cars without outside help.
thursday 1
The good thing would be having some laksa on the slopes there

Go Native 70
Hilton lease the hotel and will continue to do so. Citigroup has had to offload a lot of stuff since the GFC. Will be interesting to see what YTL has planned for the resort.

Tubby Beaver 209
The Hilton is a pretty swanky place........900 yen hot chocolate It was VERY nice though!!!
NoFakie 45
900 yen! Was there Sambuca in it? How much would a 500-room Hilton-level hotel cost to build? I guess you're talking way way over 67 million USD already. That sounds very cheap for all those facilities, esp. the way real estate has been going in Niseko. Maybe the boom is just in Hirafu. If its golf for folks in HK or Malaysia, I think you'd be better off in Hawaii. It has so much more to offer.
thursday 1
ere, no. Malaysia has some amazing golf courses.
thursday 1
The Higashiyama location is very much, hotel resort. There are houses on the drive up to the hotel, but that walk with equipment is loooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg. Needless to say, there is no ski in out, at that place. muikabochi 208
Here's a question. Will the Village and Moiwa areas get to be developed as the Hirafu?
Mike Pow 52
Very unlikely in my opinion. At least not in the next 5-10 years.
grungy-gonads 54
Why's that Mike, cash? Or just the impracticalities of the areas?
