iiyamadude 6
Last season Madarao near where I live let kids ski/board for free - anyone under 12. They also offered some free lessons. Apparently it was really popular and they are doing it this year as well. I see the spotlight page on here has been updated http://www.snowjapan.com/e/spotlight/madarao-kogen.html Any other places do that? Must make a big difference for familes out. On the subject of Madarao, they are also opening up another ungroomed run this coming season. Worth a visit, if you go on a weekday it's not busy at all.
Go Native 70
Companies up here have been trying to get Tokyu to offer something similar but they don't appear interested.
abe 0
Good to see that Madarao seems to be putting a bit of effort in. I went to Madarao last season and thought it was fun enough for a day or two. There were tonnes of beginners milling around the bottom but up top I had fresh tracks until well after lunch. The new ungroomed run is accessed from Tangram's lift. If it's the one I'm thinking of, then it could be done with a little walk across last year too. It's a pretty nice run. stemik 14
pre schoolers (under 6) free in Hakuba. 6-12 free at most resorts every thrid Sunday!
iiyamadude 6
Under 6 isn't so rare. Under 12 every day of the season is - I can't think of anywhere else that does it.....
thursday 1
kids free is a good idea. Get them into the sport and it will grow.

Ski areas in the town I grew up in let local kids ski for free. I quit once it started costing money, but here I am now, decades later, looking to pour significant chunks of my discretionary income into the sport.
muikabochi 208
I'm over 12, but I'm going to give Madarao a go this season. That zipline thing looks fun too.

xxx 2
What was the ungroomed run like last year anyone here go there?
SKI 15
I'm sure it is popular, it's a really good idea. Madarao has often seemed to be stuck in some kind of time warp. Good to see signs of them giving it another go.
muikabochi 208
They could do with getting rid of the giant clock and the Statue of Liberty!
abe 0
haha, that statue of liberty has got to go! The Airwave and Usagi runs were pretty good. The problem is that they finish up on the far side of the resort, and its pretty flat for quite a long way back to the main lift lift. Airwave II is in a better position. scouser 4
Whats the reason for that tacky statue anyways?
SKI 15
I recall there is a pension or show called The White House. Yes, I know the Statue of Liberty is not at the White House, but, er... well. Something!
iiyamadude 6
I must go check again!
big-will 7
Wasn't there that huge clock that had stopped as well? Freaky stuff.
androidess 0
My friends with 4 kids went there and apparently had a blast. Free for kids is a big thing when there's 4 of them! For me it's one thing to keep me away, at least at weekends.
SHORYUKEN2 0
I like Madarao, go once a year friend of mine lives nearby. It can get congested and that spoils it but when it's not busy there's some decent courses and the snow is usually good.
