thursday 1
Quote: Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson laughs off idea of Wales return for Ryan Giggs Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says Ryan Giggs’ hint that he is ready to return for Wales as cover for Aaron Ramsey must have been “a weak moment†on the part of his 36-year-old winger. Giggs said he would consider a return if he was asked to fill in for the young Arsenal midfielder who suffered a broken leg earlier this year, but Ferguson was quick to dismiss the idea. Asked about the possibility of Giggs playing for Wales again, Ferguson said: “Ryan? You must be joking. I can’t see it, it must have been a weak moment for Ryan. I can’t see that happening.†Giggs, 36, enjoying a fine run of form thus season for Manchester United, has not played for his country since the summer of 2007, but with the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign looming and Wales without Ramsey he hinted that a return was possible. ‘’It is something that I would have to talk about with John and Sir Alex Ferguson,†said Giggs. ‘’But, at this stage, I wouldn’t dismiss the idea. ‘’If I had that call from John I would have to think hard about it. ‘’I would properly consider the idea. I wouldn’t rule it out.’’ Wales open their qualifying campaign away to Montenegro on September 3 before facing Bulgaria, Switzerland and England. ‘’Starting off well in a fresh campaign is vital,’’ Giggs added. ‘’Those first two or three games are so important to get the whole country fully behind the team.’’ SO, here's the question: Is Wales a country? Tubby Beaver 209
First half Liverpool were on fire, played some good football. Didn't really need to press the 2nd half but still too much for Sunderland. Torres missed a couple of sitters, well 1 definite sitter and another great chance. His 2 goals were fantastic though. The former England manager's appointment was announced on live television by a member of Ivory Coast's football federation (FIF), Souleymane Alex Bamba. Any salary figures yet? $100 million perhaps?
