Tubby Beaver 209
yeah, same line as akihabara. Come out the front end of the platform (as the train travels from Tokyo), turn left outside the station and walk downhill away from the river. At the bottom of the road you'l come to a big intersection, turn left and the start of the shops are a minute up the road
HoTRoD 2
I didn't realise it was so close to Akihabara. Akihabara is too tempting (or it used to be, heard it has changed a fair bit of late).
2pints-mate 0
I was a bit disappointed in Akihabara. I had the image of it being so much more than it was in terms of electronics. Lots of ladies in costumes around when we went though.
HelperElfMissy 42
My kids thought they had died and gone to heaven in Akihabara. 'Specially the mobile phone junkie! 'Spose it depends what you are keen on. I loved Ogawamachi more.
pie-eater 207
I think it has certainly 'scaled down' in recent years and I hear you don't get the deals there any more either.
thursday 1
gadget junkie? pop into Bic Camera. I can spend at least half a day there. I like those cycle seats for the kid up front. Spent an hour just looking at bike parts.
@tokyo 14
Akihabara ain't as good as it used to be. There's less of the smaller electronic shops now and more of the tax free kind of place. Oh and yes the cosplay cafes and manga stuff. Still an interesting place to walk round though for sure.
scouser 4
Fairly big changes since I first came when there was so much more there in Akihabara. It still might be worth a visit, but I remember it being better than it is now.
skidaisuki 0
I often make most of a day of it, start in Jimbocho and then walk on down the road to Akihabara - it's only about 10 minutes. Being student / otaku-type areas there are plenty of choices for cheap food around there as well. Bic may in due course trump it, but Yodabashi Camera, "Akiba", on the East side of the station is the new King of the electronic stores in Akihabara. I don't know, but I'd guess that it must be one of the biggest electronics shops in the world, if not THE biggest. They've got EVERYTHING there.
