snowbender 3
Interesting numbers on Yuzawa Now today This season (Feb 15th 08): 320cm at Kagura 230cm at Gala Yuzawa 280cm at Iwappara 290cm at Kandatsu Last season (Feb 15th 07): 220cm at Kagura 150cm at Gala Yuzawa 100cm at Iwappara 120cm at Kandatsu Last year the second half of February was a disaster. (I bet some of those numbers were pushing the upper limits of believability as well). Looks so much better this time around!
big-will 7
And they have gone up again since yesterday This season (Feb 16th 08): 320cm at Kagura 270cm at Gala Yuzawa 290cm at Iwappara 330cm at Kandatsu Last season (Feb 16th 07): 220cm at Kagura 150cm at Gala Yuzawa 100cm at Iwappara 120cm at Kandatsu

RobBright 35
seriously - what is up with those kagura numbers?! surely they are higher than that! compared to 3 weeks ago it has put on at least 50cms!
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted February 20, 2008 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted February 20, 2008 Kagura just don't seem to add to their numbers of late, even on the day when they said there was 80cm since the day before! We do try to mention this discrepency quite often in the text of the Now reports.... but it is a little annoying isn't it!?
RobBright 35
can say that SJ - get one of the mods up there and get them to measure it themselves it's frustrating. Was there on monday in the middle of the storm - could visibly see it was deeper - any news on why they don't? can they not afford deeper measuring poles?
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted February 20, 2008 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted February 20, 2008 I really don't know why. It is quite perplexing when it doesn't change over a short period when you know there has been well over 1m. You'd think they would want to be shouting out about it. And more importantly you'd think that with such large amounts of snow falling over a short period that the snow depths would increase! Answers on a postcard please... RobBright 35
too righ - but perhaps they can't handle those kinds of increased numbers?
thursday 1
Massive numbers = avalanche danger? Dunno, dun know anything about that, so I'll shut up right now.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted February 20, 2008 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted February 20, 2008 In the past I don't think they have been shy about adding to numbers. You'd hope though that in a perfect world they would just tell us the actual (real) numbers!!
snowdude 44
I think it is because a lot of Japanese are actually put off by too much snow, sounds strange but I have heard this before. As far as I am concerned the more the better, but not everyone see it like that I guess. This maybe why some of the resorts don't report true figures, once they hit the average or above for the month.
scouser 4
So basically they find it ok just just lie?
Tubby Beaver 209
that doesn't surprise me, this is Japan after all!! I'll have to get back up to Kagura, I haven't been since early December, I bet its had a tad more since then! What are the crowds like nowadays?

This season (as at 13 January 2009): 200cm at Kagura 160cm at Gala Yuzawa 120cm at Iwappara 150cm at Kandatsu So far the numbers are stacking up much more favorably than 07 - more like 08. How is it tracking at other resorts comparitively?
