some weather info for tokyo

I am wondering what the weather situation is in Tokyo and the surrounding areas in January - March-ish.

 

any snow in the city? wet? mild?

rarely if ever goes below freezing. 5-10 degrees celcius is normal with plenty of warmer days thrown in during January-Feb. steadily warmer going into March. cool and sunny winter.

unless you come from Australia it doesn't really get cold in Tokyo. The wind makes it feel cold but we regularly ate lunch outside in December - March. So it shouldn't be a problem.

Im from the north of England and I think its cold in Tokyo in the winter! My dad came in February, and he thought it was freezing! Having said that, it is really quite dry and sunny for the most part - it doesnt snow much, mainly, I think, because the prevailing wind direction is from the north and the Kanto plain is sheltered from the mountains. The weather in winter will generally be good for biking, but bring something warm to wear!

Its cold in the house, but during the day, when the sun is out its usually quite pleasant. Rarely dipping much below 10 degrees.

It's cold enough. There are loads of sunny days and if your moving (or carrying a 10kg baby up a hill ) you'd be okay in a T-shirt but most of the time I wear a winter coat or sweater & down vest. Cold in the evenings and sometimes ice on the windows in Jan/Feb. TB is probably right about rarely dipping below 10 at midday but in the evening/morning my car thermometer is usually between about plus 5 and minus 2. I think Tokyo is a bit warmer than where I am though (Kamakura side of Yokohama).
