I think it's OK but it depends on how it's used. EG. "She's a cool chick" thumbsup.gif--sounds kind of down-to-earth and ... cool.

But when guys talk about picking up chicks, then it sounds a little derogatory probably.

I think it'a quite harmless myself and almost funny. And I'm happy to be a chick rather than a different kind of animal! ;\)

for some bizarre reason, in my bunch of mates, everyone's girlfriends/wives are called rats. it's not meant in a nasty way, it just sort of caught on. of course the girls hate it, and using the term around them often results in a swift kick to the nads. but it's a word that really rolls off the tongue and will not die

ie "yeah, come round for a few beers tonight, and bring your rat too"

i can see why the girls hate it....
