klingon 10
It seems that the until now skiers-only Yokoteyama are going to allow snowboarders to get to the top of the resort this coming season in a change of policy. Still not allowed to board down from the top of Yokoteyama to the bottom of lift number 3 though (due to "the course being narrow and dangerous"), so boarders will need to take the lift down. Lifts 5 and 6 remain skiers only.
thursday 1
that's logical
Yuki's Passion 1
where did you find that? It used to be all lifts 1-6 (7) were skiers only. Does that now mean boarders can go down #2 and the Giant/King (whichever it is...) there as well? That run was ballz deep 2 years ago as long as #3 and #2. That was the year!! SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted September 13, 2007 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted September 13, 2007 I have just asked a contact in Yokoteyama - apparently this is basically true, though not sure on the details of where they can and can't...
Hakuba-Invasion 0
The runs down from the top there are really narrow anyway not much fun if you ask me. With a board you want to be in other parts of SK
emilee-japan 0
It was always strange that place with boarders allowed over the top at Shibutoge.
BettyBoo! 0
Just want to say the views from up top there on a clear day are incredible.
BigBertha 0
That is one of my favorite areas here. Great views yes, but it can be incredibly cold. I like the bread up there too
Tubby Beaver 209
So what areas do you want to hit if you are a boarder? I'm a bit confused, how far down does lift 3 come? i don't wanna board half the mountain then have to take a lift down to the bottom. I've heard that SK is pretty expansive, so is their plenty other boarder friendly terrain to play in?
grungy-gonads 54
Yes there is tons of places to board because the area is so wide. See bottom right quarter of this map: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/maps/snow-jap...akogen-map.html Thats all Shiga Kogen - going from Okushiga Kogen > Yokoteyama/Shibutoge. The only areas where boarders are not allowed at Okushiga Kogen, Kumanoyu and (now part of) Yokoteyama - so basically the extreme areas (though boarding is ok at the Shibutoge area on the other side of Yokoteyama). dale#1 1
Boarders probably wouldn't be keen on Yokote anyway due to the really narrow courses they have up there. Not the best part of SK I think.
RosieJ 0
I went to Shiga Kogen in summer - lovely area. We took the top lift up to the top part and had some nice bread as well. I hope to visit there in winter.
