I have thought this a few times before and forgot to post.

You know those small stretches of road at the base of Shiga Kogen (Nakano?) and the one between Nagano and Hakuba where you have to pay toll.... why are those small sections toll roads?

Yes, I did it 2 weeks ago. It passes through many small villages and sightseeing spots. I also know 1-2 nice places to pick up food on the way. \:\)

But, it is full of turns and very narrow road and I definitely avoid it during the winter. It also takes 30 min more than taking the Olympic road to hakuba.

I went up to Shiga Kogen last week. What a lovely area it is, very beautiful I really liked it. And those monkeys!

I used that toll road by accident actually I didn't know until I was on it. Very short. On the way back we used the town road which wasn't painful!

Hoping to go to Shiga Kogen again before the end of this year when it is white!
