97 0
.... does he wear a wig when playing? I thought the hair was an important part. Does anyone know?
gamera 0
He can not be a sumo wrestler if he is bald. A sumo wrestler has to have enough hair to make that kind of hair style which is mandatory.
fukdane 2
Seriously?! Great question there 97!
gamera 0
Yep, seriously. So I am still qualified to be a sumo wrestler coz of my full head of hair but...... you have to be 175cms tall or taller. I am 173cms, 2cms shoter!
nzlegend 1
Hakurozan the the Russian sekitori (brother of Roho) is seriously having trouble with baldness, his Chomage is the most pitiful ever seen. this photo is old its his official photo on the Sumo association homepage, he has lost a lot since this. Here is a more recent Hes is only 24! He is going to need some drastic rectification of his hairline and soon, or hes going to be in trouble. Gamera, the Sumo Kyokai recently dropped the mimimum height to 167cm and 65kg for weight to entice more youngsters to join. Mainoumi ( now TV tarento) famously got a silicone implant under his scalp to make the former height requirement.
gamera 0
167cms? Didn't know that. Hmmm I think Hakurozan is having hard time
TJ OZ 0
I just got my tickets for the sumo tournament on Thursday. I don't think I will be mistaken for a sumo. Very sad that this sort of bias to the folliclly challenged goes on in society today.
ncorrenti 0
Why don't they just get hairplugs?
Yuki's Passion 1
extensions might work too - maybe some braids! what are those companies that claim they can make your hair grow? I think they just superglue it to your scalp
Thunderbird2 0
But does it have to be his own real hair gamera? Are extensions allowed?
scouser 4
So if they are not bald and then suddenly become bald mid-way through their career - they get chucked out??
nzlegend 1
Sentoryu (muscular half Japanese half Black American) who retired and became a Pride fighter, was pretty bald, he used extensions to form the chomage (topknot). Its a long standing rumour that a rikishi will get 'chucked out', no-one has been forced to quit.
gamera 0
Yeah, as Mainoumi got another some cms height to get qualified, maybe extensions could be okay? I am not sure, just checked Sumo association web site but could not find anything about it. You can check the site to make it sure. http://www.sumo.or.jp/eng/index.html

nzlegend 1
Akebono was about 230kg at his heaviest and is 203 cm, about 6'8", Musashimaru was the about same weight. Koninishiki was and still is around 280kg. They were the true behemoths.
