veronica 2
This has been puzzling me since yesterday. I have a folder on my desktop that has 2 files in it. I want to delete them all. But my PC just won't let me. It always comes up with an error message saying that they can't be deleted for whatever reason. Anyone able to help?
montoya 0
what kind of files are they? What error message are you getting?
veronica 2
Thanks. I can't copy and paste the message, but it seems to be saying that the files are in use and to close things before trying to delete them. But I'm not using them and they are not open. They are just a normal Word file and a few jpgs.
montoya 0
I would re-boot the computer and try again.
indosnm 0
They might be locked. Get their info and it will tell you if they are or not.

veronica 2
Thanks all - happily rebooting the machine seemed to work. File is now zapped.
Ocean11 0
Do many people just leave their computers on all the time?
veronica 2
I leave mine on when I am using it. I turn it off when I'm not, never leave it on overnight. That's why this puzzled me. But when I rebooted last night I was able to delete the file, something I could not do the day before when I first noticed it. I have no idea why.
nagoid 4
I know someone who leaves their PC on 24 hours a day.
Ocean11 0
That's a lot of CO2 going into the atmosphere for a petty annoyance.
scouser 4
Nuts. Mine gets turned off. Lots of people here seem to also not turn off their tellys, rather just put it on standby.
slimeypete 0
Some of the calculations I do take 12-14 hours to run[/quotes] Bloody hell! What might they be calculating?!!? (Is your computer a ZX81?)
egglesby 1
Well that explains it! Sounds a bit more complex than my 1 sheet excel file.
