taguchi 0
Like this thing is confusing for me. Sometimes I see word like internet with capital "I" and sometimes small "i" (mid sentence). Which is correct and why? Thanks!
Ocean11 0
taguchi, check this out: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=internet (If you have Firefox you get a neat little window with a dictionary in it, as well as Google, Wikipedia etc.)
soubriquet 0
Taguchi. The rule is very simple. Internet is a noun, and nouns do not take a capital "I" unless at the start of a sentence. The exception is when the noun is a "proper noun", that is the actual name of someone or something. Therefore the person known as Ocean11 (proper noun) lives in Matsuyama (proper noun). Ocean11 0
But the Internet is a proper noun, so it does. Unless it's a poxy little internet that nobody's heard of, in which case it doesn't.

soubriquet 0
In theory yes. However, there is no right or wrong with English, only preferred usage. As long as we communicate successfully, the jpb is done.
Goemon 0
The correct usage is "internets" with an "s", as explained by the man with the most important jpb in the world.
sava 0
Goemon: yes, but does GWB say internets or Internets
Goemon 0
sava: i'm positive that gwb speaks entirely in the lower-case.
BagOfCrisps 24
I prefer a more traditional "World Wide Web" way to refer to this new fangled internetting thingy.
Ocean11 0
Whatever happened to the 'Information Super Highway'? That always struck me as a very inappropriate sort of metaphor. Although there was a fair amount of roadkill on it in the 90s.
soubriquet 0
I preferred the "Infobahn". If you don't like the way I drive, then stay off the footpath,

snowbender 3
'Information Super Highway' Yes, that one was good. My mum always talks about the internets (plural), maybe she knows something we don't.
