It's the state of dirt before it becomes dirt. I'd like to say that it's rotted vegetation but that may turn some of you off your favorite drinks.... oops lol

And for me it's whatever beer is the cheapest and any decent liquor (current favorites are Cuervo Gold Label Tequila and Contreau). I actually found a fake beer SO CHEAP that I've yet to find the brewing company's name written anywhere on the can/packaging... and by cheap, I mean LESS than 80yen a can from the supermarket...

Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- A bottle of Scotch whisky valued at as much as 20,000 pounds ($33,600) will be auctioned today in Edinburgh along with malts from a U.S. collector.

Bonhams, which has auctioned Scotch for 20 years, will offer the Dalmore Oculus, made from whisky malt vintages as much as 141 years old and stored in a crystal decanter. The catalog shows a guide price of 15,000 to 20,000 pounds.

Scotch whisky is one of the few categories of the auction market where prices have risen in 2009. Also on sale today is the largest single-owner batch of whisky to appear at auction, said Bonhams: more than 3,000 bottles from Willard Folsom, a U.S.-based collector who died last year. The auction is expected to raise 150,000 pounds in total, said Bonhams.

“Whisky is a very precious and collectible commodity and it’s better than leaving money in the bank,†Martin Green, Bonhams’s whisky specialist, said in an interview. “The people who have done the best are those who have held onto the bottles for 10 years.â€

The record price paid for a bottle of whisky at auction stands at 29,400 pounds, according to McTear’s, the company in Glasgow that sold it. The bottle, auctioned on Sept. 28, 2007, was a Bowmore made by W&J Mutter’s in about 1850, McTear’s said.

The Dalmore Oculus, with a rich, dark color, was created by fusing malts from as long ago as 1868, according to London-based Bonham’s, which Green said has sold 98 percent of the lots at its whisky actions this year.

“Whisky sales have been fantastic all year, very strong,†Green said. “We’ve seen that kind of demand every time.â€
