I have binding. there is nothing the matter with them so why should I buy a pair I just want skis. Now I see why you want
  3. Looks like you're all set for a riding partner for the next few years ... until he gets better than you

  5. I'd like to nominate Mantas for "Stokemeister of the Month". Could someone second the motion? Great pics
  6. I'm amazed this thread has gone on as long as it has. Guess that's what happens to a skiing forum in the summer
  7. The short answer to your question is "yes". Where have you been looking?
  8. Sad news indeed. ++vibes to his family and friends. Sounds like there's been some unstable conditions lately http://www.odt.co.nz/southern-snow/latest-skifield-news/66827/avalanche-warning-skier-dies

  10. ^^^ Nope. Can confirm that it was grey and overcast on the Nagano/Gifu border yesterday.
  11. Have heard that some towns/cities with declining populations will offer financial incentives to people who move in and build a house.
  12. ^^^ What's up with all the negativity??? Those are some decent pics. Most appreciated during these summer months They could be a little bigger though.
  13. Second one down looks like the cone of Myoko though not sure where it was taken from.
  14. ^^^ Yeah, the chainsaw has been know to nick the rock wall on occasion so we usually bring an extra chain or 2 Temps will usually drop below 0 as early as late Aug, but it doesn't really start to get cold till mid Sept - then the white stuff may start falling and sticking.
  15. ^^^ Am pretty jealous too. Passing through NY may be your best bet, but if you're looking to do a little riding, Gore Mt is a good little hill. It will probably be a bit of a let down though after the West Coast.
  16. Looks like a good days hike GN - thanks for sharing. Any luck with the Dynafit setup?
  17. Well done Captain. Especially likin' the 3rd one down - sky in the background really brings it together.
  18. Will be looking forward to the pics and report then MB. With summer getting underway here in Japan we need something to get us through the next 5 or so months.
  19. Any updates from the Southern Hemisphere? Or has the season finished already
  20. ^^ Thanks guys Originally Posted By: snowjunky brilliant work. A question - how do you know where to tunnel? Another? - why is the water not frozen? It's kind of tough to see in one of the pictures, but there's a sort-of natural dam at the end of the tunnel where the melted snow (water) accumulates. From late June to late Aug it doesn't usually drop below freezing, so the snow is continually melting. However, by early Sept the flow does start to slow down, and usually in mid-Sept the last of the snow has melted. The hose
  21. Mattaus - which part of the US/Canada were you thinking of? If it's the East Coast, I'd say fire away with questions, but I'm guessing you're looking out West. As Creek Boy said, tgr is a great place for info. If you're a tele skiier then there's also a telemarktalk forum; if you're a new schooler then there's a newschoolers forum; if you're an epic skier then there's an epicski forum; etc etc. But I reckon there's a few North Americans here on SJ that can give you a little advice and point you in the right direction as well.
  22. Part II: And at the end of day 1, the tunnel has reached the 10m mark.. Capped off with another beautiful sunset... On Day 2, the remaining 4m of the tunnel are finished... And at the end, water is struck... Next, the cable is strung and the hose attached... And finally the water flows to the storage tanks... ...supplying enough water for over 10,000 people over the next 4 months. O-wa-ri
  23. Although no skiing was involved, there was snow, and lots of it. If any hikers/climbers have ever wondered where the water comes from at some of the huts in the mountains, this is the answer for one... When: June 28th and 29th, 2009 Where: Northern Alps It all begins with a short climb to the Mizutori Sawa ... And the tunnel commences with a little chainsawing, digging, and snow dumping... And keeps on continuing... With a short break for lunch... To be continued....
