Snow in Japan 2009/2010
foreversnow replied to skichef's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Yeah I have been there for the last 3 poor seasons - Last season I didn't think it was going to stop snowing and for someone who is height challenged I quite often was hitting hip deep powder YEAH SHOCKING SEASON. I was constantly worried about scratching my skies on rocks NOT I don't know why people keep going back to Japan year after year???????????? Maybe it is for the bad snow -

Frangipani is a flower found in the tropicals. Highly scented flowers in big bunches all through summer. In Australia there seems to be some sort of frangipani cult among female drivers (and male drivers who listen to the village people) and they feel the need to stick them all over their cars. -

HEY HEY HEY MB I am a skier and CERTAINLY DON'T wear High Waisted pants. . The only reason I am a skier am to much of a baby to go back to basics and learn snowboarding which I would love to try. I was chuffed the other day I was at the lights and have Ski Bunny - Rude Girls (very in ski shop in Canada) and Niseko Hirafu stickers on the back of my car. I had a car load pull up at the lights yelling and waving I apparently was A SIC DUDE!!! Although it is schoolies week here!! -
Thank you Thursday for posting this thread. It has been very very interesting reading. We are now looking into going there in 2011. Just how rund done is the hotel?? Do they still have hot water and clean sheets?? As long as I can come back after a days skiing and have a hot shower and get into a clean bed I will be happy.

Just watched the Bottle Shop. It was an enjoyable movie. It was about the Americans breaking into the French Wine dominance. -

You can get them when you get to Niseko or at your local Snow Shop. Snowbiz in Queensland stock them I think they around $14-95. Best purchase I made. Mr Snowhunter is way to cool to wear them but I certainly love them and have a giant smile on my face everytime Mr Snowhunter goes sliding past me, falls over, does a pirouette followed by a double axle and then the spilts whilst looking like he didn't slip. -

Heed everyones warnings about slipping on the ice. Most injuries in Niseko are from Slipping on the ice and being hit by snow falling off the roof's. You may see more people slipping over on the ice than crashing on the ski runs!!! Best thing I ever bought was the spiked slip on cleats. LOVE THEM. If you don't get them you will definately be doing the Niseko Ice Walk shuffle. Mockkie we will also be there in Mid Feb if your interested we will be doing a day trip to Otaru and around the 20th there may be the Yukitopia Ice Festival in Kutchan. You'll find plenty to do if your not -
Bus goes regularly every day into Kutchan - You have a choice of Co-Op or MaxValu. Max Valu probably has more selection and is definately bigger but The Co-op is where a lot of the locals shop. When you get off the bus make sure you go and try the OSHII bakery/cake shop on the central street 2 shops down on your left The bus is fairly cheap from memory this year it was 360y one way. It takes about 15 minutes and leaves just up from the Seico Mart. Seico Mart is good for those little things you forgot while at the Supermarket. Also Gloria Plaza has a nice little selection o
