  1. you mentioned you studied german and believe this is a whole new ball game. I WAS fluent in spanish when I lived in south america. Then I decided to come to japan, thought I had the learning languages thing down. My spanish began fighting for supremacy at being my second language. I honestly intermixed the two for well over a year. Now my spanish has taken a back seat but I am wondering if it would be beneficial to actually study both at the same time, literally. It may actually be easier to understand grammar changes etc, if they are broken down together. Plus, having german under your bel
  2. say hey to the 'wood for me. try to get stranded at the hill if you can. Usually happens at least once a year, usually in feb.
  3. you got yourself some new bases and new edges. It's like well-aquainted razor blades. your skis will suck you back in. i trust so. (wax 'em again please. Tuning matters.) nights will be fast and short. get an on-hill locker at 6k yen/year, wax your boards on weekends when you take them home, leave them there midweek. Imagine those fricking weekdays your at work watching it snow all day, dreaming of saturday. (God that sucks!!!) Just take an hour early/nenkyu, and go ride highspeeds and crud for a few runs! If I get a locker, will you just put your skis in there? Then all you're real
  4. dreaming of an excuse for a nenkyu thursday. If no new snow, may save the nekyus for powder season. saturday regardless. waiting for after-work-crud sessions to kick in. I can't wait for highspeed quads, flood lights and light snow at 6pm. btw, my new skis rip and need much more attention than the weekend loving I've been providing. I can't even ski 'em yet. they're fricking fast. I'm panicking by the time I reach the chair.
  5. six days over the last three weeks. Sunday was busy too, a 40 minute first tram line, and it was raining (lightly) at the base! I'm not the only lunatic. Not a drop of snow in my driveway, so I understand the tenative ambitions to go. Nonetheless, I know my new skis rip and I can't wait to go again on saturday... albeit mud-dodging conditions at lower mountain.
  6. you know, daver, skiing is happening in your town. It's not western canadian, but 4 of my 6 days were on new snow. the latter two still afforded me a few fresh lines. Gotta call you on it, dude.
  7. I don't really know what to make of the "seasonal" weather predictions every year. I remember last year my friend telling me my nose was white... time to go down. I remember how the cold compared to minnesota frost-bite days. I remember chest deep snow, frost on every square centimeter of anything outside. Then a month later, it rained. I remember standing in the same spot on top of the mountain getting rained on- in January. you'll just have to see.. every season is different and the weather seems nearly impossible to predict. If it were that predictable, EVERYBODY would know the

Having said that, it was my first day in a long time on one, and i probably rode like a snowboarder from the 80`s too. stupid question- what is snowsk8ing? you mean on those tiny skis? But you called "them" "one". oh... the scooter thingy? like michael J fox's skate board when he went back in time and broke the handle off the kids scooter/board? the board with a handle? That was you?
  9. you should sit on your board and ride it down the stairs. then, if you want to do it again, but faster, buy skis.
  10. to catch the sweet little snowboarding girls, try this line out; got me married anata wa abazureon'na desu. You are an angel of a woman. makes 'em melt on the spot. Their shy personas don't know how to deal with such formal compliments. That, combined wtih your foreign charm will surely make for an interesting stay... Just don't use it around other guys...
  11. apparently (no experience) the new naxos are bomber. EBC, last year's sumo was brown leather, this year's is black leather. I wanted a pair as soon as I heard the word leather. I bet they're waaaayy pow-posh.
  12. I'm dying to see those sumos. leather top sheet? sounds fricking gorgeous.
  13. lines pop out at me. everywhere. walking down the street, I will see lines off of rooves, over bridges, into shrubs and down fields. Lines are everywhere and I have come to the realization that that will never change. I'm going to be 87, staring at a staircase coming out of a downtown parking garage, dreaming of airing out to the parked station wagon, and stomping on it's windshield. If you don't understand lines than look... imagine... or rent some ski porn and get off your ass and start dreaming because skiing does tend to grow much larger than february's hobby. Sorry... just f
  14. probably sno-mos in the winter. Minnesota has more miles of sno-mo trails than miles of roads. due to the 13,000 lakes freezing over. Not to jack this thread, just saw a common denominator. interesting that the fastest way to the other side of the city is over the lake in winter... anyway, back on topic... gomen ne.
  15. in minnesota, lake minnetonka, there is a large island where people live. Kids ride jetskis to the main shore for school. pricks...
  16. last year this time we had snow, then remember the rainy season in january? damn that sucked. also, two years ago, no snow till christmas. Once this warm spell dies, it's on and like japan, it won't stop snowing for weeks/months.
  17. the top 3 I've skied: Jackson Hole (most demanding) Cragieburn club field, NZ (grittiest) Happo (BC options/ Most ridiculous view)
  18. sorry to hear that... been finding new snow at zao. nobody is out, half the chairs are closed, but there are alot of ungrommed runs that have really decent snow. rarely bottoming out. really beyond my expectations as it's raining at my house.

Good for chatting with your mates before dropping the line..... I have the giro fuse with the tuneups. they have a mute button that you can clip to your collar. It froze up on me one stormday and I had it exposed to the elements. (only two days experience so far) Otherwise it was ok. There is a port on the earpiece where the wire plugs in- you can unplug really easily. usually, I just bump the mute button when I pull into a lift
