Domain hosting recommendations
YellowSnow replied to Ocean11's topic in General off-topic discussions
I have a few options for you. I work for a hosting company, it deals with the hosting of large sites. But we configure everything. Can even help you put you pc in our server farm, but it costs a lot. We do, small hosting but again it is private for the moment. We can set up a VPS for you with a dedicated global ip. There we can even do the configuration for you or we can just mount the vps and you do what you like. E.g. make your own MTA sendmail postfix etc. Third last option, host it yourself. If you just have one site and you want 100% control, download and install Plesk(i -
That is a great thing about Japan, and I guess a reason why nomikai's are so cheap. In a big group girls may only drink one drink, and guys about 5. So Nomikai places can keep the cost around 1000 for 2 hours. Get a few gaijin guys in there and you drink much more than the price. Its all good. If girls are sitting in the corner not drinking and telling themselves how "pure" they are, I am going to drink harder, knowing they are paying for the experience. Edited to add: They even have the pleasure of pouring out my beer for me. (not that I am a beer drinker) Japan is the best.

rronnie seems the place is connected to a bar. Japan has a heavy drinking culture, if you dont now you should consider taking it up. I dont think I could make it on the bus with out some, because everybody will be drinking. You can buy 2-3 liter cans on beer from the konbini. Because of drink more born again christians leave their religion in Japan than they can recruit.

boors size 12-13?
YellowSnow replied to modaddie's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I have been skiing snowboarding in Japan for 3 years. Yes the biggest boor is 30cm but the board will be too narrow and you wont be able to turn. btw size 12 to 13 is 30.5 cm to 31.5. As with rollerblades it is nessesary to have a small bit of room in your boor or you will cause yourself an injury(even if it is small) Size 31 can be had easily for skiing. The largest I have seen for snowblades is 29.5 Unfortunatly for tall guys to only real option is going out and buying gear. (or getting a tall friend to lend it to you) -
I am glad I dont have the crack cocaine habit that is called "music". Do you actualy buy Q? If you do then you are justifying their diatripe. If you really must have your fix of crack just read it in the shop.

closest ski field to tokyo
YellowSnow replied to vivavic's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
It really depends on the price. If you can take the shinkansen it will be a bit more expensive but you can travel to some good mountains in an hour. -
Thanks all good tips! This year I have gone all digital. If not I would just slip some velia in my mamiya. I will look into a circular polarizer. Yeah 100iso is good. But cant beat lower iso films. Ianbc you go as fast as 1/1000s? For sport or scenery? I guess I was always on the slow side prefering long exposures. I might try a night transition 60min exposure the next mountain I am up.

Question for this thread. Ignoring the temp adjustment for snowphotography. What is the best tip for maintaining a strong blue sky.( even if slightly hazy) Stopping up or down? What is a good aperture.( for still photography. The normal optimal point is the middle aperture of the lens.) Do you like a longer or shorter shot? Any good filters? Incidently I am selling a 100-300 and 24-75 sigma lenses for a canon eos(20d 30d kiss etc) body.

Yen - What to bring
YellowSnow replied to panhead_pete's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Got to agree with Rocky here TC are the worst thing to bring to Japan. Because Japanese banks are not to fond of foreigners just using signatures, the can and will get you to resign the slip exactly the same as it is in your password. Could take 10 to 20 times if you dont do it perfectly. You are also playing to much interest and charges on TC's. The first time I traveled my mother forced me to taking them. Ever since I have taken cash. -
45 degrees slope???
YellowSnow replied to coldcat's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I dont even think you can go on mount fuji during the winter ( it is closed) but volcanos are often used in down hill speed tests e.g. cycling. So they have the gradient. Some of the smaller less well known resorts have 35+ but for me at least, when you hit that kind of gradient and anything happens, i.e. falling its a hell of a tough walk down. -

Mount Fuji or one of the other volcanos. -
I cant say Jpop is all bad... Because I got paid a lot( not really a lot but 100,000) to be in a Jpop music video. Its even on youtube. Most useless food in Japan: Bread with out the crust. Internet is useless in Japan for all its worth. Customer support staff, customer facing staff in general. Public places in Japan are pretty useless. No chairs, no bins, no fun. Sorry for starting to rant. I love Japan.

Sunglasses
YellowSnow replied to echineko's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Sunglasses, pair of police but sun tan lotion gets in my eyes in a bad way. So usualy going down the run with one eye closed. I personaly cant stand the type of glasses shown in that photo. Maybe I will upload my photo to show you what I am wearing this year. -
Nope, I think I will hold it in. I was just thinking back to the days of the SNES vs. the Megadrive. SNES has so many million colours and all the press said it was unnessesary and the SNES would never make it against the Megadrive. In the end Nintendo is still in the black and sega is almost non existant. I think sony might win in the end. Yeah its a bit expensive. But the calls for boycotting it is just history repeating itself.

If you do can you put a message here. Especialy if you have run into problems you managed to resolve. I dont want to be held liable but their pppoe software is craping all over my pc.

How long are your poles?
YellowSnow replied to merryJim's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
True story: I was following my friend snowboarding on a rail. Camera in hand. He falls off the rail and I take the same rail on one blade. ( it was a pretty easy rail too) Any time I have tried jumps or rails with normal skiis, the kicker part of the jump, tends to cause to much pressure (as in bending the skiis a lot) at low speeds. -
