Removing candlewax from carpet
Kraut_in_HongKong replied to ncorrenti's topic in General off-topic discussions
Have you tried a google on "wax removal"? Ironing with newspaper is not bad. But I suggest some cotton cloth or tissue paper. The absorbtion is better. Newspaper may leave black print marks. Another option is to cut it out with a sharp knive, and fit in a piece you cut out from another carpet area, maybe from under the sofa or under a cupboard. -
With that schedule link I checked from Tokyo and Shinjuku. But since I stay in Shinjuku I probably prefer the train from Shinjuku to the countryside, and then change there. I guess there will be a much smaller trainstation with a lesser chance of getting lost. Kuma I collected lots of transport combat experience in China, I think I will opt for a reserved seat and watch the fight from a distance.

Fattwins Do I have to book or can I/we just show up? Really don't know yet. It's our arrival day. Have no idea how thinks work out on that evening. Maybe we are immobile coz of 1 day ski muscle pain..... But maybe not.... Well, and dinner is provided by the hotel anyway... PS: can you post the Tracks Bar address in Japanese? Otherwise I may have a taxi problem....
-
So, "Tracks Bar" is the name of the place right? Still don't know if it's 'downstairs' or do I need a ski lift to get there? I would love to join, but not sure what to do with the kids. Maybe wife can look after then in the hotel..... But then I am short one girl und would require a suitable replacement. Whoops, just kidding.....

I am a bit confised now, I checked times with http://grace.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hyperd01.cgi There are non stop trains from Tokyo which take 90-110 Minutes But I searched from Shinjuku (I probably stay in this dreadfull prince shoebox) and got a connection with a change in "OMIYA(SAITAMA)", from there it's another 60 Minutes. Or is there another Shinjuku somewhere in the cuntryside? Anyway, I will buy my ticket one day in advance.

Bottomline is: You consume more calories then you use - you gain weight You consume less calories then you use - you lose weight Easy and simple with no 'if' or 'but'. Kids nowadays gain weight coz they eat and have little physical activity. Just homework for 5 hours a day.

Thanks to all! I am thinking of Saturday, 28th, the 07:18 one to Tokyo to Nagano. I guess I may be not the only person going to ski from Tokyo on that Saturday. So i will consider..... But in the worst case, that train is only 1 hour.... But standing in the smoking section would be a worst case scenario.... How about the Nagano>Hakuba bus? I guess that will be full too. Should those tickets be bought in andvance?

T-bar in Japan
Kraut_in_HongKong replied to Svetik's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
"Nothing wrong with T-bars Quit your complaining people" I prefer a T-bar to a walk up. I know this is whimpish..... -
I am soooo excited! I will be in Hakuba Happo-One January 28th onwards! I checked already with Spicy rentals - that have some 30.5cm boots! Good! But they have no matching short skies! I either use snowblades (OK, they usally don't fit large boots), or a short carver (around 120cm or so). Is there any place in Happo-One area that have such a match?

I was in Nozawa in 2003 or so. It's quite a small village. I staid in Haus St.Anton and had dinner there (excellent by the way!). One day their kitchen was closed and we went out for dinner. Luckiely one of our friends was japanese and we had some sushi in a small bar like place. I guess it will be tough if you don't know japanese (like me). I strolled also around in Nozawa. There are not too many outside (non-hotel) restaurants there. That was my impression, maybe I just didn't look hard eneugh. But be preprared not to be overwhelmed by choice.

Late evening Tokyo >> Narita - how?
Kraut_in_HongKong replied to Kraut_in_HongKong's topic in General off-topic discussions
My flight is only early the next morning. I will stay overnight in a hotel near Narita (Garden Hotel). I would go only to Narita Town anyway. I did that before and the taxi was only a few minutes and cost was only 1 weeks wage (just kidding). So, a local train from Shinjuku or Tokyo Station will be just fine. -
Late evening Tokyo >> Narita - how?
Kraut_in_HongKong replied to Kraut_in_HongKong's topic in General off-topic discussions
Thanks for the help! My flight is at 09:30 or so in the morning. I am with family, so hanging around till the next morning is no option. I just wonder if there are trains which just go to Narita Town (not Airport) and which are not listed on those English airport access sites. But I may opt for an earlier bus from Hakuba to make things easier..... The 21:30 arrival seems a bit tough.... -
OK, I want to return on 30/1 from Hakuba with the latest bus (so I can have a full day ski). The bus will arive Shinjuku at 21:30 - can I still go on the Narita? Coz I have an early morning flight the next day. I had that before and it was a MAJOR trouble to find a train. Or is it best just to ride to Tokyo Station and get a train there? Really, this time I want to check that out first!
