  1. That's rather a lot of skiing, bpc. I've skied on both sides of the border between Montgenevre and Sestriere, and it was excellent. Huge area and perfect snow. Deep cold powder everywhere. It's a bit far west for you though.
  2. Slow. It wasn't just Hakuba. In Yamagata we needed to get some Shinto on to Zao to make the snow come. Whatever they did worked, because when it started it took three months to stop.
  3. I have borrowed Rahul's charts. My prediction is that there will be snow in Japan, mostly North and West Honshu and Hokkaido, between December and March.
  4. The Torygraph reports: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jht.../ixnewstop.html There was no cover-up, says Met chief By Philip Johnston, Home Affairs Editor (Filed: 19/08/2005) Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, last night denied that Scotland Yard tried to cover up the botched operation that led to the shooting of an innocent man on the London Underground last month. As controversy raged over claims that he resisted attempts to set up an independent investigation into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, the Brazilian electrician shot seven time
  5. And Netscape 7.2 is available free, download from an English site and it will work. Don't touch v8.0, hopelessly unstable.
  6. I know Snowglider, where did you get that emoticon from. Can't see it in my list.
  7. You don't need dual operating system then. I have Netscape and Eudora installed on gf's machine, and they install themselves quite nicely in English over Japanese Windows 98.
  8. Breakfast cereal, supposed to be high fibre.
  9. The intergalactic laxative can get you from here to there. If shitting is your problem, without a worry or care...
  10. If the agenda is exposing official lies, then so be it. The goons will be punished, but I doubt the perpetrators will be brought to account.
  11. When I moved here, I got my bank (ANZ) to issue a cheque in Yen drawn against their Tokyo arm. The morons at my local bank spent ages in collective panic mode before accepting that this was a domestic transaction, and did not attract *special fees*.
  12. I agree, but you are one step ahead of me. The leak serves someone's agenda: I'd like to know whose?
  13. While driving in heavy snow on hardpack, between 2 metre walls of snow, 8yo son commented: "What we need dad, is sunglasses". I'll take a pair of those sunnies which turn a whiteout into blue skies. And a pair for me lad, too.
  14. With so many gods and spirits, at least we have a choice. It's a big improvement on having someone's one and only god rammed down your throat because their's is the only way.
  15. It makes it very important to watch critically, and remain open minded until as full a story as we are allowed is known.
  16. Quote: Originally posted by veronica: Men who don't moan, aren't obsessed with sports and don't smell. I score two out of three. Does that make me eligible?
  17. Lending your credit card to your girlfriend, man oh man
  18. Oops. Sorry for the rant. Despite the legs not being there, how was the trip?
  19. Guns? What do they need guns for? To shoot people. That's why the free-est people in the world have the worst murder and prison rates in the world. Some of us are just to stupid to realise we aren't free.
  20. Kintaro: I was thinking of you today. In Fukishima you probably got less than us. I was stopped at lights, feeling the car go sideways, watching the power poles swaying, wondering what 250kg of falling transformer would do to the car roof. Ocean11. Plate tectonics created Japan, and earthquakes will be the price, until it is crushed between China and North America, when the Pacific closes. Thank god I won't live to see that.
  21. Moment magnitude and Richter are both log scales, but the formula is different. The former, according to the USGS, is designed to give better discrimination of high magnitude earthquakes. Richter scale saturates at the high end. Assuming you don't mean the difference between a log scale and a Rahul scale, in which case the difference is whatever you, the charts or the crystals wish.
  22. Its up here now: http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/bulletin/neic_bvae.html USGS says 7.2, subject to revision.
  23. Thanks sunrise Hope everyone in Miyagi is OK.
  24. Gf reckons it was a 4 here in Yamagata. Thats up one on Niigata last year. I certainly felt it.
