  1. I have two pairs of shoes. Both were originally brown, and are currently green. I have two pairs of boots, my original cracking Scarpas and their less-than-cracking replacements. Also, two pairs of sandals. One pair wearing out, and the second in reserve. I also have a pair of totally shagged-out feet, but they still look much better than the missus' or her offspring.
  2. Tumpty tum. MSshiteware (trademark) is precisely that. Just because it is installed on your computer and the feather-head "experts" who pay themselves gazillions insist that this is the only way, does not mean you have to use it. I use FireFox as a browser, and Eudora for email. The only Microshiteware running on my computers is the OS.
  3. The only shoes which fit my DD footpods are Clarks. No-one else makes a wide enough shoe. Rach, my newest shoes are 8 years old and have been sent back to the UK to be re-soled. I'm a shocking dresser in old shoes. Let's call it off
  4. Ah yes! Snouts in the trough! paying themselves squillions for being so clever. Then expecting sympathy and taxpayer's subsidies when it goes tit's up.
  5. Lehman brothers went bust because they made bad commercial decisions. There is nothing so pathetic as a broken down old banker holding his hand out: "brother can you spare me a dime"
  6. MS rubbish is precisely that. DOS was a dog. MS Word was the lowest common denominator. If those are your professional standards then so be it.
  7. You are correct, BoC. WordPerfect is (unsupported) bollox. It is much better than MS Office 2000 though. If you want to post me a rip-off CD of the latest MS bloatware, then pm me for contact details. If (as I suspect) your employer is paying good money for shite, then good luck. There are real problems with going past two pages and an XL spreadsheet in MS Word. I have to be careful here. My pm box is full of warnings from SJF about being banned for stating unpopular opinions. MS got rich selling bloatware that would not perform. In my professional opinion, taking money for non-perf
  8. MSbloatware would recognise and display the object sometimes, but not every time. Sometimes, it would place it in the correct position, sometimes not. Sometimes everything was fine, but when you re-opened the document, everything had re-formatted itself. WordPerfect is old and clunky but it gives you the option of a second screen where you can directly edit the document format. The text will cascade around the object very nicely. Possibly, MS have dealt with this issue, but I have no temptation to spend my money finding out.
  9. My mate Don at the CSIRO was (is) a superb computer scientist. He has spent many years writing most of the software to interpret airborne EM. He was (is) tearing his hair out because he needed to make a report and MSshiteware won't recognise or format MS objects. I'm going to be criticised for this non-PC opinion. Enjoy your soylent green.
  10. In the 1970s I was programming in Fortran and on punchcards. Microsoft may dominate the market, but their bloatware is shiteware. WP allows me to place an image precisely where I want on the page. No problem. MSshiteware won't allow you to format the document. Try writing a 300 page report after 2 years and a 1/2 million dollar budget. I would love to update but the dead WP isn't matched by new offerings.
  11. No joke rach. This is pre-CD technology, and I still use it. I would love to update, but MS Word bloatware (shiteware?) can't deal with MS objects. WordPerfect gives you an option to open a window and directly edit the formatting. It also allows you to place an object where you want, on the page. The "more advanced" software can't manage this.
  12. WordPerfect used to take about 40 floppies to install. For my teaching, I use images embedded in the text. This way, there is no misunderstanding about meaning. Try as much as I can, there is no word processor better than WordPerfect for dealing with objects (in this case images). MS Word is so faulty that it will not recognise Microsoft objects. WP will. I would love to fully transfer to Open Office, but in 10 years there has been no improvement.
  13. My earlier post has been deleted. SJF sent me some very nice pm's, asking me to be polite. I'm very happy to co-operate. Rag-Doll (and bankers). I have no problem with people using their talents to make money. Bankers like nice tidy things like asset-stripping. It's the rule of the market. Tough shite.
  14. WordPerfect! Right on. I've been trying to find a better word processor for 10 years. WordPerfect clunks and clicks, but it formats objects far better than any other software.
  15. I am very sorry for the individuals who have lost their liveleyhood. I have no sympathy for the bankers who got rich when times were good, and now have their hands out for taxpayers' money. (Rag-Doll: This is not a go at you personally.)
  16. Rag doll. I was part of the establishment once. I spent most of my life working to establish a home (mortgage) and pension (funds). She stripped me of 70%. Whatever happens, I'm going to be poor. If that makes her poor too, I'm happy.
  17. Spud should not have have not boasted publicly on this forum about how much money he "earned". He chose to do this. That was his choice. My pension fund has gone down too. I'm going to have to work until I die, no rest there. Hopefully I die soon.
  18. Vegemite (or marmite) and peanut butter sarnies. Sweet and savoury. Yum.
  19. I'm not telling you anything. I don't know. Spud was very happy with his bonus. It was better than twice my salary and would have paid off my mortgage. My beef is with those who believe in "free market" economics when the money is rolling in, then want taxpayer protection when times are hard. How do you spell "hypocrite"?
  20. Spud's bonus was greater than twice my annual salary as a senior scientist at the CSIRO. Tough tittie.
  21. My sympathies are severely restricted by the knowledge that these financial parasites grew fat and rich on the labours of others. The bonuses flowed during the good years when sitting on the arse free-enterprise predators got rich. Now it`s Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Hard times and the fat git greedy bstards have their hands out for taxpayers money :finger:
  22. Just been on the blower to a 16 year old. It`s not "if I leave home", its "when to leave home". If kids are bad, parents are worse.
  23. The memsahib has been instructed to tip my ashes in the Mogami river. Cheap and easy.
  24. I'm expecting the FIA to place Hamilton under investigation for a)driving too fast in the wet, and overtaking.
