  1. Yes we know. An active plate boundary as I said before is usually a subduction zone, which is the place were a tectonic plate subducts beneath another. In northern Japan for example, we have mainly the Pacific plate subducting beneath the Eurasian plate. A dormant or "passive" plate boundary is the area between 2 tectonic plates where both of them stand still. For example the east coast in the USA, which is the boundary between the North American plate and the Caribbean plate.
  2. Quote: I put a lot of time in this thing, and I don`t want it to be stolen. I really love this line!!!!!! The guy actually stole the flash code from the official southpark home page and still has the nerve to make comments about copy write! southpark site Anyway you can still save the picture, it is easy. After you have finished with your character press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard. Then open any photo editing/viewing program and create a new A4 size photo. Then press Ctrl-V and save the hall thing! Even the "Microsoft Photo Editor" that comes installe
  3. Quote: Question: Can a class 9 happen in Japan? Are there special conditions or whatever required for such a massive thing to happen? Like the size of the fault or something....? I will try to answer your questions simply without getting into details. Theoretically yes, an event that big can occur in Japan. Actually in 1994 and 2003 we had 2 events 8.2 and 8.0 magnitude in Hokkaido. Last century 19~ there are 3 more events over 8.0 magnitude. Usually these big events occur at active plate boundaries i.e plate subduction zones. If you don`t know it by now, Japan is sitting over a
  4. Never been to Gala Yuzawa myself I usually go to Kagura. From friends that have been there I know that you will find anything you need at the station, from lockers to rentals. I usually get of the train one station before Gala and take the bus to Kagura. It is about 20 minutes ride from the station but I think it worth`s the trouble. Check the riders reviews for the ski resorts in Yuzawa area before you decide.
  5. If you don't mind being in the train all night, there are trains that will get you to hakuba area or yuzawa area before 08:00. If you wana get on the first bullet train from Kyoto at 06:15 you will be in yuzawa at around 10:30 and hakuba at 11:15. If you are interested tell me and I will send you more details. Unfortunately I don't know any link for a site in English to send you.
  6. In New York the average taxi driver you will find is the illegal alien Indian/Latin American type, that plays Indian music and might not even speak English. Sorry if I sound racist, but that is the way it is. I thought London was a bit expensive too, never been down to Liverpool.
  7. I don`t disagree that some of them are bad, the same goes to every profession and not only the taxi drivers. My point is that the service in general in Japan taxis is average better that other countries. Try for example to compare it to New York or London. Will it be cheaper that Tokyo or more polite?
  8. I don`t think so. I find the taxi services here in Japan really good. They don`t take tips, they won`t cheat you with the change and they will not start driving in circles as soon as they figure out that you don`t know your way. I think that you were just unlucky because the same thing happened to me also but I got the 1 Km free ride. Actually the most amazing thing that happened to me in a taxi in Japan is this: The taxi guy lost his way after some point because we entered in some small alleys searching for the house of my friend. So he apologizes, stops the clock, ask me to pay u
  9. The only disgusting thing in Japanese porn is the mosaic! mottai nai...
  10. Has anyone tried Kagura area yet? It seems that they have some snow up there. I checked their site and say that they might open all slopes from tomorrow 12/23.
  11. I have paid my respects again to the corporations. I bought the other day the joint Macdonalds/Disney calendar for 200 yen.
  12. I use worldlingo 2 but not that much. If you know some basic Japanese, I think this site is better. http://language.tiu.ac.jp/tools_e.html
  13. Yes sad, I heard the news yesterday. But I don`t worry that much, this one dies an other will rise again!!! For the time being you can use this site till they bring it down 2. http://www.earthreactor.com/
  14. Cheers mate. I will be looking for any new posts. I ve already booked a place in Happo from 2-4 Jan. Would be nice if there is something going on around that period. Although to tell you the truth I prefer to sleep early and get on the first lift next morning!
  15. If you are interested in nightlife, better head to Europe. You won`t find any in Japan resorts.
  16. Out of curiosity only, why is everyone in this forum against snowblading? What makes it so inappropriate for the slopes? I can understand myself that: snowblading + backcountry = death wish but why doesn`t it fit on normal hardpacked slopes? I have never tried snowblading so I have no clue how it works.
  17. Fare enough. Allow me to add something on your statement though. Some snowboarders and skiers are silly. As I said previously, it is just the attitude of the person that makes him silly and not the sport he is doing i.e. skiing or snowboarding etc. If you believe in general that snowboarding as a sport is silly I would like to hear your arguments.
  18. Come on Toque man, not all us snowboarders are silly, just the posers!!! They really make me angry too!!!!! I can be really kind understanding and compassionate with newcomers on the slopes, after all I was not born with the board strapped on my feet; all of us were new to the sport at some time. But definitely I cannot put up with posers or in general people with attitude.
  19. Apparently this is not the only one. There are plans for Hong-Kong also. Check this link Millennium Tower
  20. Not yet but I will have to unless it snows until new years day. I have booked a hotel at Happo from 1/2 to 1/4. I keep my fingers crossed!
  21. I wonder what would sharks answer to the poll "what we should do about humans that pollute our homes and hunt our keen for sport"?

  23. yap! If you are stupid enough to bite!
  24. As far as I know you don`t need to change your contract once you change your phone. The case that I know that this is necessary is if you change from a DoCoMo phone to a Foma (DoCoMo) phone. They have different packages for Foma mobiles so you cannot just upgrade your contract. For some options that the old mobile didn`t support but the new one does like videoconference or i-mode(=mail mobile internet), you don`t need to change contract. You can activate them by paying a monthly fee and keep your contract as is. For normal videocamera camera radio tuner etc that come with the latest mobil
