  1. great pics, bushpig. was the lighting just like at or was that due a setting of your camera? it's almost eerie, esp in the 2nd and 3rd pics from the bottom. i'd never heard of mizuho before and looked it up. wow it is in very western japan! looks like a fun day
  2. last friday, the higher-ups called a company-wide meeting to say no more internet use for non-work related stuff due to privacy info. protection (i.e. stop surfing, people) grrh! everyone had to install this program that supposedly blocks or reports? a bunch of sites. no more gmail no more SJ for me at work they also handed out a list of unacceptable things to have on your PC. i double checked one of the things on the list with a co-worker and yes, you are officially not allow to have: nu-do gazou. who would have that on their work PC? damn. no more p*rn at work either
  3. yeah, my caption should read: and many other places, eh hem near tenjin/the kanto side, i assume where did you get by a tree?
  4. Serre, ya there seem to a few reviewers who've gone. i guess tenjin is famous as a starting point for the b.c. this pic is facing i think tanigawadake first peak and ichinokuradake behind it. you can't see it clearly in this pic, but you could see there had been a bunch of slides on the lower right. gamera, that's beautiful. candles in snow always make for a good, peaceful setting. do you have to replace the candles often?
  5. Bluebird on Saturday morning at Tenjindaira (and many other places, I assume)! Got a little cloudy in the afternoon. Wasn't cold at all! NO LIFT LINES!! 3 co-workers and i had the mt. to ourselves. sweet, sweet day another three weeks and Tenjin resort will be packed. i'd love to go to the BC here in the spring
  6. extended inujuries suck but you prolly want to take it easy there will always be another powder day. but you may not always have perfectly healthy knees! for some perspective: i broke my left wrist bone, had surgery, had it put in a cast, refractured it (though not due to snowboarding), had it casted again. two long years later, i was back on the mts. enjoy the fireplaces and onsens this season
  7. banjobiwan, what is your height? i'm 169cm and like using my 56 in the park/pipe, but prefer something 65' or longer for pow. but, it's all personal preference. where will you be riding. the island of honshu (main island) is getting an unusually large of amount of snow so early in the season enjoy your trip!
  8. i know nothing about fashion, but using rock-climbing chalk bags looks really silly. you know, those snowboarders, esp. those in the snowpark, who have the whole gansta style down. fad
  9. Quote: but, yall kinda peaked - skiers are back ta kickin your @sses again. We can go faster, higher, and throw cooler lookin tricks Yama, that skier-boarder clash is so 15 years ago but i'll take you up on it world record for a boarder is 57 meters (length)of air by Mads jonsson, 2005 agree w/ you about JJ. He rips anything he touches. do skiers get as many chicks as snowboarders?
  10. a friend named her board Thor Goddess of Thunder and would refer to it as an animate object. i don't name my boards, but i used to name my cars...'92 toyota corolla (when i had it) was called Egg or Papa (Smurf) b/c is was blue and egg-shaped and The Black Stallion was a '89 Chevy Lebaron, black i HAVE slept w/ my boards before. what can i say, i'm a kid at heart when it comes to ma boards.
  11. last april, Nango, http://www.sayurinosato.co.jp built apparently what was Japan's largest kicker at the time, the "Monster Kicker". no pics of it on the net that i could find, but it was in last October's Transworld JP. pretty high, with a 15 or 16-meter gap, but pretty rare for japan.
  12. i don't know much about the snow industry in japan, but i like to know which resorts change owners, and which resorts are self sustained or owned. overall, more people have been exposed to snowboarding, which is great. the movie seems to be about giving respect to the last generation of riders and showcasing the current superstars. but it does come down to how much fun you and your friends have. like you, oyuki, i had tons of fun when i started doing something new. riding the park and the pipe was and is a great learning process. it feels great when you finally land and stick a trick you'
  13. lost is a great show and i'm hooked. they've got the formula down. continue the island story while telling retro stories of individuals. DL and BT is a great trick, fb.steve. yeah, there are some weirdos out there. apparently, people all across the states starting playing that guys's lottery numbers in the real lottery...brainwashed! so do you mean we have to wait until JANUARY to see episode 10 of season 2?!? Grrrh. anna lucia is spicy hot
  14. i assume your dad skis in Oz, nicole...? but if you did in in some places in japan, even today, you'd stick out like a green tree in a forest my dad used these ugly leather ski boots for close to 30 years. they'd leak and by lunch time, his feet would be wet. but he's always said that his skis were easy to find near restaurants..the only skis w/ bindings to fit leather boots
  15. well, if you think about snowboarding, it originally had a rebellious edge to it. it has a lot of influence from surf and skate culture. but since snowboarding has gained popularity in the last 10 or so years, i've started to wonder... when i was in junior high school, it was something different, something my friends and i did, something a lot of people didn't do. it was our thing. on one hand, if the "sport" (some people don't call snowboarding a sport, but a way of thinking or a way of living) gets too many people involved, the slopes become too crowded. Yet, on the other hand, if there
  16. was sweet on saturday! consistent and heavy, heavy snowfall all day. white out conditions. great for tourists and weekend warriors , must be real tough for everyone who has to shovel. toque-nice to match a face with a name. didn't see you @ the gondola, oh well. too bad i couldn't ski the trees w/ you guys--but at least skiers have poles to help them out. i got buried 2 or 3 times just on the slope--nose of the board goes in the snow, then in some more, then in some more WE ARE LUCKY THIS YEAR!! PLENTY OF POWDER IN HAKUBA THIS EARLY!
  17. First Descent, a feature full-length movie about snowboarding came out on dec. 3rd in the U.S. http://www.firstdescentmovie.com/ i haven't seen the movie (haven't found any torrents yet), but it makes me wonder about the direction snowboarding is going...
  18. orange, you thread has been hijacked yeah, roger, i was wound by the time i got done reading the article. but the author has an immense knowledge of japan. he's the guy behind nihongoresources.com bushpig, "cunning" is apparent Br English, but i don't know if it's still used in that way anymore--way old-fashioned? americans wouldn't have a clue as to what that means.
  19. i've only been to Kamui once, about 5 years ago, but it's a great local ski hill! enjoy asahidake as well !!!
  20. i have a black helmet with a yellow beware-of-the-bear sticker on it, black jacket, and no brakes going up by myself i'm addicted to riding according to the latest report, Skyline and Kita-One lifts should be opening up soon!!
  21. gamera, i stand corrected. there are words that have more than one pronunciation in katakana/japanese, which i get confused by, for example: ubiquitous【発音】ju(:)bi'kwitэs、【@】ユービクイタス、ユビӞ 1;タス which is it and why? nevermind somehow beocmes = don't mind, which then = don-mai-n, don-mai-n!! (nevermind my spelling Roger-more than you would ever want to know about Hotchkiss-Brand Staplers. http://www.jekai.org/entries/aa/00/np/aa00np69.htm reminds me of how x-ray is called "rentogen" in japan, after the man who discovered x-rays, Dr. Roetngen, not for the technology
  22. planning on getting my first day in on Saturday!! i can't imagine 47's park has already been built yet, way too early (anyone know for sure?), so it's looking like Happo CAN'T WAIT!!!!
