  1. I wonder how they got his almost unscarred face out of all the rubble. There wasn't much left standing after those 2 500pound bombs, but his face was pretty much intact.
  2. I don't think it is a ski town. It is a town, near mountains with a bundle of ski areas. Unless the whole local tourist industry joins hands it will be difficult to attract more international tourists who stay a week or more. (occupying beds on weekdays) Have a look at Niseko. Somehow they got it right. Everyone seems to know about Niseko and plane loads of int. tourists are coming spending plenty of cash (and making trouble at the same time). The one's who have been there a few times might go to other nearby resorts on Hokkaido. Just a handful take a better look at what else is around an
  3. Vanilla Ice stills tours the US, but now as his 'real' him. Playing hardrock and covered with tattoos
  4. I think it was one of those technical ski guys as they were filming him and interviewing him. But I agree more people should spend more time in the moguls.

The reason for it was 'to have a better snow spray'
  6. The moguls at happo can't be that mean. Last season I saw a guy skiing them with ease on 1 ski. I vote for Nozawa somehow I am not able to avoid them there.

It is a bit out of the way (Portillo and V.Nevado you can do as a day trip from Santiago) but has better snow and less people to share it with. Las Lenas and Bariloche in Argentina should be good too.
  8. K2 seems to be buying whatever they can get their hands on these last few years. I guess they see a market in the snowblades

Is this common for the modern ski shape, or should I go for something slightly less beginner? The dimmensions of teh last pair I rode were: modern skis are more noodly than old skool sticks. In general a ski with an extreme sidecut is constantly 'searching' for an edge when you point them straight down. But do you want to learn how to ski or do you want to learn how to come down a steep face on skis? -A stiffer ski will be easier to control at higher spee

After I turned 30 suddenly a lot of free goods/sponsors were coming my way. Not just gear but even trips. That continued until I moved to Japan. You probably still have a long way to go before leaving the 20s. So a lot can happen.

Not saying they will of course, but... there's often a surprise or two thrown up in a tournament like the World Cup. That was with Hiddink. He is a legend in Korea, maybe he can do the same with Australia this time. He seems to be pretty good in forging a team out of individuals.

  14. I know someone who went to for a check-up here in Japan and the doctor told her that the baby was doing fine but the mother was getting too fat. She was put on a diet during her pregnancy. I had never heard of that before. They usually can spot a boy weks before they say it is a girl. I think they count fingers and then when they end up with 11 it must be a boy or something.

  16. Having 11 worldstars on your team doesn't make it a strong opponent. This only gets you a team with 11 ego's but probably not the winning team. It is how much one player wants to sacrafice himslef for others. Making the extra steps necessary to cover flaws from others. This is one reason why Real Madrid has/had the highest paid players but didn't win anything and same counts for underperforming of England at major championships. Germany on the other hand usually isn't the strongest on paper, but always make a strong performance because they play as a team. The Netherlands (not Holland
  17. We have a concept2 rowing machine in my gym. Don't like it to much, probably because it is dangerous
  18. The Lund skis look very similar to the one's I have but mine are Michel's with Tulla patented bindings. Did he seriously ski on those, first? They are 200cm and impossible to stear. I also have a pair from the fifties. You could very well imagine skiing on those.
  19. Somewhere in the 80s a ski magazine wrote an article how you could make a twintip from a regular ski. I 'made' my first twintip ski in 1991, but I wasn't able to use much as I was blasted from the halfpipe by territorial snowboarders. But I'm interested in the real answer.
  20. Where in Norway? If have been in Kiruna, but that was at the end of the season so not much to say about the snow, but the scenic views are incredible with the Lofoten on your doorstep. As far as I understand from people who have been there more than once go to Are (Sweden) instead. Good skiing, nice girls, good apresski, but expensive beer.

An Austrian speed skier has used rockets on his skis to go faster. He got the world record but many thought he was cheating. Anyway they go faster now without rockets.

  23. Around SLC I really enjoyed Solitude. Even on the weekend there were no crowds and the final run of the day (after a 5 minute traverse) down to Alta (through the snowcat fields) Alta and snowbird are also great.

You covered the important/better places from there is goes down hill but the prices go up. I really like Serre Chevalier. The old town of Briancon is great, but the terrain is best on the other end of the resort. Main advantage is that it isn't on everyone's list to visit. So more snow for yourself. Champery in Portes du Soleil is a charming town on the Suisse side with a good park and lots of powder fie
