  1. Today was over the head - face shots on almost every turn, we were chewing snow on each turn, I needed wind screen wipers on my goggles and today I truly understood the term `pack your snorkel`. I cant really write much more except that today was the best day of my life. Pics: Matt, leaning back on the board Deuge

That feeling, where your legs are walking, lifting up and down, but you know you aren't going anywhere. You just have to keep packing it down or throw your equipment in front and try and crawl very softly through it. It is good and bad at the same time.
  10. Report from September / October in Oz: Rode the 04/05 190cm Gotama's in a foot of fresh snow yesterday; My previous experience with fat skis was the Movement thunder at 87mm waist and my volkl V-Pros at 83mm. They are seriously weapons in the powder! Tight trees, can do jump turns on them too, they are lighter than my v-pros, although they can get heavy with a lot of snow build up on the tops of the skis. My first runs on them were just going straight on powder and just getting the feel for how they flexed, then I started rolling them in some turns and they do hook
  11. Fallen head first into a tree well in Austria, had to get my mate to push my feet down underneath me, then I had to be helped out of the tree well as I was down about 7ft at the base. Got out, pretty exhauseted, disoreinted and had bark and pine needles in my ears for days afterwards.
  12. Quote: Originally posted by slow: http://www.sossportswear.com/ I sometimes drop in the shop in Tokyo on my dayoff. Thanks for the link! Perfect. Looking at the evolution endurance pants and the evolution esacape jacket. Think all up it totals 103,000 Yen, but I am buying here in Sydney at half price. And I was referring to waterproofness rating not yen in my first post. Thanks all. Oh and I'm a he - just checked.
  13. Looking at picking up new pants and jacket. Can't search for SOS as it is too short and their corporate website is under construction. I haven't had to look at buying ski clothing for almost 4 years so I am not really that familiar with manufacturers or what I should be looking for. We get a lot of wet snow (Rain) in Oz so waterproof rating is important. I think the pants and jacket I am looking at are rated above 20,000. So basically is SOS a reputable brand? How does it rank alonside Arcteryx or Marmot or Columbia

  16. YP, I think you are right about the Lodge, the company we are booking through said that it was a new listing for them.
  17. Toque, like your response. YP, I think we are staying at Lodge Hauka, it is self catered, 5 minute walk to the village centre, close to shuttle stop etc etc. What about night sessions in the terrain park, am I going to need a park ski?
  18. Fattwins - No skins, I am not into back country touring yet - next couple of years maybe. I have a question for either you or toque or any other gear head around here. The skis in my quiver are (L-R) 04/05 Volkl 724 EXP 177cm (114-74-102) 03/04 Volkl V-Pro 180cm (113-83-105) 04/05 Volkl Gotama 190cm (130-105-122) I am going to be spending 3 weeks in Niseko from January 22 2005 and need help deciding what skis to take. The Gotama's are in - that part is easy. Here are a few ideas. 1.) Only take the Gotama's, and if we get unlucky with the snow ([anti-j
