  3. If you’re looking to snowboard down it you may want to find a splitboard. A splitboard is a snowboard that breaks in two which will allow you to skin up all but the steepest sections. Once at the top you reassemble it and you have a snowboard. Many back country borders use these.
  4. Take a couple of lesson both both board and ski. See which you like best or try renting both. It will Keep you from spending on something you may not like.
  5. What ever your view of the war was is all kind of irrelevant now. We all have to live with the aftermath of it. IMO pulling troops out of the region is the worst thing that could happen. The area is way to unstable to just up and leave. By Spain pulling out the terrorist could perceive this as a victory. The end result being they now step up their terror campaign by trying to persuade other countries by using the same tactics. Sounds kind of grim. How many other countries are on that list? Unfortunately the US is the only supper power left and it’s easy to point a finger at. I’m
  6. Nate Thanks for the information. Sounds like it was a good season despite the avi. It may have been a bit technical for the non-BC type skier. However the info was still good. Just curious is there any sites that gives avalanche conditions for Japan in English.
  7. The real reality If you truely love the sport you will find away to get up and go no matter what the conditions. If you wait for the perfect time you will miss it.
  8. If you wait long enough the style will come around again and be popular. How many people would have thought bell-bottoms would come back into fashion.
  9. I skied in Korea for about four years. Overall I had a fairly positive experience there, both skiing and with the people in general. My wife’s Korean. I think one of the problems with skiing there is skiing has become the golf of winter. You are expected to golf in the summer and ski in the winter. This puts a lot of pressure on the ski resorts. Another of the problem there is that they don’t limit the lift tickets being sold at least not to my knowledge. The slope there can be extremely crowed at times. People running into each other can be common with multiple people pile-ups some t
  10. Rule 1. A bad day skiing is better than a good day in the office. Rule 2 There is no such thing as a bad day skiing. Just go and enjoy
  11. What it boils down to it is up to each skier to ski in a controlled manor. I can usually tell the beginners using the slope by the way they turn and the amount of slope they use up. I adjust my speed accordingly pass them and then continue. If the slope is just that crowed go-slow and find a slope with less people. If you can’t control your speed enough to avoid an accident you have no business going that fast. Show a little courtesy and respect. As far as some of the teenagers we were all their once just keep an open eye out for them. Try to rest up in as safe area as possible. Above a
  12. The real question should be can he ski or is he just a poser?

  14. Frank drink one for me. Spent about ten years on and off in Bavaria. Schnider is good beer try some Ayinger weise its also pretty good. The one nice thing about Bavaria is it seems like every town has a brewery so there is never any shortage of good beer to be found. Next stop for me is Sapporo herd the beer there is good.
  15. I took an avalanche course a few years back. I was pretty interesting learned a lot. We got to practice using beacons digging pits and what to look for, probe lines. But one of the few things that really struck me was the fact that if your party cant self rescue, your pretty much SOL. If a rescue party has to come up to have to help the only thing they will be looking for is body. The chance of surviving an avi after being buried for 15 minutes goes down dramatically. The point is make sure you know the conditions make sure everyone knows how to use there avalanche rescue gear. Practic
  16. powda tele check out this web site it maybe helpful. http://telekichigai.com/

  18. I will be moving up to Hokkaido in about a month job transfer. Does anybody know of any good resorts or BC areas to ski telemark there? Also I’m debating on bringing my skis with me or sending them with the movers. Any ideas as to what conditions may be like there in mid April? There is always time to get some runs in while house hunting.
