  1. Some Tokyo people may be interested in this. I am going to a free seminar tonight with Joe Hideo Morita the son of Sony founder. It is on "Growing up Sony", in English and he doesn't usually speak to public so should be pretty interesting I guess. It is in Minami Aoyama at 7:30pm at Anaheim University if anyone is interested. Quote: Eldest son of Akio Morita, the cofounder of sony corp, will speak on "Growing Up Sony" at Anaheim University's Akio Morita Learning Center. For a rare chance to hear first hand from the 16th generation of the famous Morita family, book your place now.
  2. Had a thoroughly entertaining evening last night as I stood on my balcony watching what has got to be the most inept display of police work ever and one of the biggest flaunts of the law I have seen! About 8pm a bosozoku guy rides his bike at about 10mph down the street with the polics following him, sirens blaring and talking at him through the loud speaker, "abunai yo, yukuri ittee kudasai, toamtte kudasai!" All the time the guy has his hand raised with his middle finger to the cops behind and weaving across the road whilst revving his engine int he annoying bosozoku way. The police did
  3. My personal favourite, on a 35 year old mother's t-shirt in a Wakayama 7eleven " Cum, a feeling everyone enjoys" Can't argue with that!! Cracked up laughing, and I still regret not having asked for a photo to this day.
  4. No boss or anyone else in the office today, sure feels like a Friday!
  5. Anyone been to Aoni ONsen in Akita? Or Nyuto Onsen also in Akita? They look really remote and traditional looking, just wandered if anyone had any first hand reports form them?
  6. Don't forget the 7's!! Possibly one of the best weekends I have had for a long time (if you are into rugby and foolishness!), will be there again next year for a chaps stag do, let the stink begin!
  7. C.B- Prob staying in the mainland here in Honshu, as it is only the long weekend. Don't mind being on a Shink for say 2 and half hours. Oyuki-Will look into Bessho sounds good. Bobby- Want to go somewhere a little more less well known, have been to Nozawa a few times. Beautiful place though, you are right. Any more for any more?
  8. Time to leverage a bit of information from all you in the know Onsen people. Been particularly busy at work recently and have booked a long weekend coming up, just want to escape into the country side, back end of nowhere type place. Looking for recommendations for somewhere in the countryside, maybe a spot of easy hiking/ strolling, quiet, fairly accessible as can't be bothered sitting through traffic and so will be taking the train/bus, where I can just completely turn off and relax.....answers on a postcard please! All suggestions appreciated
  9. looks OK in mine and it s only half opened on my big screen.
  10. I often think, just how long is it until the record can never be broken, when we have run as fast as we will ever run. Surely there is a limit to human speed (even with performance enhancing drugs that all athletes seem to be on these days.)
  11. hot, summer, beach...only one contender. Mohito!! And you can pretend to be in Miami Vice! Make sure you have fresh mint
  12. Quote: FUKUOKA — A 58-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday for sneaking into a 57-year-old man’s apartment and living in a closet in an unused room for a long time, police said Friday. Tatsuko Horikawa, 57, was arrested around 3:15 p.m. after she was seen by the man on a security camera he had installed. The man told police that he hasn’t used the room for a long time and he didn’t realize anyone was living there. According to police, from time to time, the man noticed food missing from his refrigerator, so he installed a security camera. On Wednesday, the camera caught the woman and
  13. Tsonda, just read it now...natsukashii!!! Few of those beaches I have been sat on many a night waiting for the buggers to lug themselves up and lay eggs. Top stuff, recommend anyone to visit. Tsonda next time you go give me a heads up as may well be down there as well.
  14. Tsonda, I must have missed that TR will check. Yeah I was researching at the Turtle Center there, did you visit? Were you studying there as well or just travel? Did you visit the Izakaya there called Yanky Town, it is right infornt of my house. If you didn't and you have chance next time try and get over to Haha Jima and Muko Jima too. The ferry there is a killer isn`t it!
  15. I used to live and now spend a lot of time in a VERY remote place, it is infact 25 hours from mainland Japan and only accesible by boat not airplane (yet still considered part of Tokyo!! Go figure!). It is called Ogasawara, or for some Americans the Bonin Islands. Amazing group of islands, which some call the Galapagos of Asia on account of the amount of endemic species there. There are a few photos on my profile on Sj somewhere.
  16. Book Off and Hard off, great bargain bins! Virtually unused set of Ping golf clubs with bag and woods......5,000yen!!!
  17. Hate the things, one of the only insects I just don't like. Something not quite right about a living thing that stays alive without its head. I have just moved to a nearly brand new apartment on 7th floor so I am hoping it won't be too bad this year. Had one land on my head last year and fall down my shirt!
  18. A girl I used to work with, her dad was in a pretty big USA glam rock band a while back. The lead singer was called "Chainsaw" something or other. The whole reason behind his name is that whenever they did a live gig he would bring out a life size cardboard Rick Astley on stage, then promprtly take a chainsaw and begin hacking it up!!
  19. Glad its not just my office that is having a slow day!!
  20. In the UK we actually fine people if theya re spotted tipping!
  21. Inadvertently ate a mouth full of maggots once. Put a handful of what turned out to be rotten edomame into my mouth on a train and thought they tasted bit weird, then started to feel squirming around on my tongue, stuck it out and saw a fair few maggots. Worse thing was, as I was on a crowded train I couldn`t spit them out all over people so just chewed really quickly and tried not to think about it and gulped them down!!
  22. I still pay over here, there is a court nearish my place we use. Also tried to set up a squash ladder at the court I play at in Tokyo, but not so many takers. Great game for a sweat and to work out that frustration!!
  23. I think the best flight I have had back to UK is still with Virgin. Great service, decent seats and great inflight entertainment. Worst has got to be Aeroflot- Delayed for an age, stale bread food, inflight film was some kind of old cinema version of a Chekov play, and the female flight attendants must have been ex russian shot put champions and I swear I caught one of them shaving her "beard" in the toilet!!
  24. I just came back from my first ever trip to the big 'ol US, and to my surprise had a brilliant time. The tipping thing is a bit of a mare but I stuck with 10% unless it was really good service (but then I just may be a tight fisted.....!!) Anyway NYC rocked and would thoroughly reccommend visiting. Did help that my friends friend lent me his apartment for the week which is slap bang on Park Ave near Grand Central, for free!!
