OK, just stumbled across this story on a Sydney surf mag website (Stab Magazine). They like to push buttons, but they also have articles that are usually worth reading, whether you agree with them or not. Their web editor just returned from a holiday in Niseko and penned this piece: http://www.stabmag.com/jed/invasion-day-in-japan/ some highlights: "So bad have the drunken antics of Australians become in a quaint Japanese skiing village, local authorities have appointed a Canadian cage fighter to keep the peace... a night of debauchery perpetrated by travelling Australians in t

ford transit converted campervan. piece of crap it was. bought it for 1100quid, paid 600quid on repairs that did nothing to fix the numerous problems, and sold it a year later for 2000 punds. not a bad result then.

Travel from Tokyo to Niseko
spook replied to DonSalieri's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
depends how lnog you have - if it's just for a few days, then there's tons of resorts in nagano and niigata which are easy (and quicker and cheaper) to get to. you can also send you luggage to your snow accommodation by takyubin, to save you lugging it around.. -

Xgames: Skiing progression
spook replied to mitchpee's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
i was thinking something similar about snowboarding the other day (it applies equally to skiing though). 20 years snowboards were so primitive, and if you look at vids and photos from back in the day, it's almost a completely different sport now. likewise with skating. look at how mental the stuff people are doing now compared to 20 years ago -
yeah, waaaay too much of a mission. having a car would be pretty nice. there's a bunch of stuff we'd like to do nearby, but taking public transport tkes ages. tomorrow we're gonna check out the snow monkeys, and it involves a bus, train, then bus just to get there. fingers crossed we enjoy it, because it's about 6 hours of travel there and back just to spend a few hours there. looking at a map i reckon we could drive there in an hour or so. oh well next season... car! oh yeah, BM, can you get your PM's turned on. or email me at lukegerson at yahoo dot com dot au did the tunnel today t
