Snow in Japan
mattlucas replied to jeanniel's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I didn't have class until 3:30 in the afternoon so started my day early at 8 with an hour in the bouldering cave. Then I trucked out to Whitewater ski hill. Got stopped in a road block just out of Nelson and now have 3 weeks to fix my muffler or else... Got there and saw that even though the resort is closed the Summit Chair was running. Talking to 2 telemarkers they said we might be able to get a ride up as the liftees were going to the top to shovel 10 minutes later we were getting on the lift for a freezing ride up. (we were dressed in skinning clothing expecting to be slogging u -

I wouldn't say Japan has kept itself safe by having zero tolerance for drugs What is the rates of alcohol abuse over there? Seems pretty high and common

Just got back from skiing at Whitewater Did something over 3 hours. Was sooooooo busy. 15-20 minute line for the 1 chair they had open. And it was not the good chair open. But the powder was almost boot deep and I was skiing fresh sections even on my last run But holy **** was it cold. Started at -15 and didn't get much better. I wasn't ready for that and spent my time shivering in the line. But it was a good first day in resort. My last resort skiing was late March or early April. So it's been a couple months. -

I brought 3 pairs of skis home to Canada with no problems in the summer. The ski bag was over 40kg with all my mountaineering gear as well The check in lady even got me a seat next to an attractive 19 year old girl -

Picked up my pass and Paid for and ordered the Arcteryx Alpha SV The SV Bib is the prototypical ascent tool for unabashed all-weather alpinists. It features a pleated full-frontal bib design, front pockets, and pack-friendly 3/4-length WaterTight side zips. -
