  1. Good lists; I'm only gonna add the most memorable ones (= the ones I can remember?): Fishbone (at a tiny bar on the Jersey Shore) Rage Against the Machine (Roseland in NYC) Beck (at Brixton Academy in London) Bouncing Souls (everywhere, but Coney Island High in NYC stands out) Chemical Brothers (in NYC with Crystal Method opening) Neil Young (all of his one-man shows; guy can play for hours and captivate an audience all by himself) The band I had a chance to see, but never did was Nirvana. 2. It's very old, but I used to like Greg Stump's "Licensed to Thrill" featuring Glen Plake.
  3. Who here is planning on going to the Fuji Rock Festival this year? Great line up again this year. I'm definately going for the entire weekend!
  4. I think Journey's "Separate Ways" video was one of my "favorites"; they basically shot it outside a warehouse down by the docks. Didn't even have any instruments in the video, so they all were just lip-synching along. I felt really bad for the drummer who was forced to just slap his hands on his thighs to keep the beat.
  5. Quote: Guam+Hawaii Hey, enderzero, what's with those colonial conquests being counted separately from USA? I guess I need to expand my list to include: Guam Puerto Rico Louisiana Purchase
  6. (after checking my passport): Japan Canada Mexico England France Netherlands Luxembourg Belgium India Malaysia Singapore Indonesia Korea Hong Kong Australia Fiji Bahamas (does that count or am I padding?) USA (but not all of the states; that's a whole 'nother list!) Oh, the places you'll go! So many more I need to go to! So many glaring omissions!
  7. I used to be a practicing Master of the Flying Guillotine, but I had to give it up for logistical reasons.
  8. Enderzero: Still haven't cued up the new Prince Paul on the 1200s yet; I'll let you know. Lotsa good guests on it though, so I'm tingling with anticipation. I've got "Pyschoanalysis" too, but don't feel comfortable playing it in mixed company; "You mothertruckers are all alike." I don't know who's sicker: Prince Paul or Kool Keith?
  9. Don't let the Yoda ears fool you; she's 100% canine. Those ears are quite functional actually; she can turn them any which way, even in different directions at the same time. They're her little satellite dishes.
  10. Last week I was listening to the new Prefuse 73 album, "One Word Extinguisher". Bought the new Prince Paul album yesterday ("Politics of the Business"), but haven't listened to it yet.
  11. I love dogs too. Here's a picture of my dog (the dingo) and my girlfriend's dog (the standard poodle) chilling in the park :
  12. I love hoopin' 'n' ballin' and still find the NBA interesting enough to watch (in spite of all of the big egos and boring iso offenses). US college hoops is far more appealing, but can't see much of it here in Japan. " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />
  13. db: Walk downstairs, turn right... It's part of the new Prudential Tower there. Folks line up kinda early though, so try to get there before noon.
  14. Along those lines, there is also a very good cheese ramen in Ebisu on Komazawa-dori at a place called Tsukumo Ramen . They only make 200 servings of it each day though.
  15. Well, you were buying it at a kebab shop, so you can't expect much, can you? Of the restaurant pizza I've had in central Tokyo, I'd rate these as OK: Pizza Salvatore (in Akasaka) Piccolo Grande (in Azabu Juban) Il Pacioccone (in Minami Aoyama) For delivery: Brendan's Pizzakaya (in Nishi-azabu) As good as those are though, they are only a smidgen of the quality of a NY slice " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />
  16. I would like to see a NY-style, mom-and-pop pizzeria where you can buy pizza by the slice. I think that the pizza has come a long way since I first came here (or maybe I'm just finding better places), but a quick, hot slice is still missing.
  17. db: I've just bought a shiny new drill which you may borrow; only catch is that you have to return it as shiny as you borrowed it.
  18. 1000 liters? I think you need the scale back on your curry intake, Zwelgen...
  19. Not sure about English info, but NHK usuals reports the magnitude and epicenter of the earthquake within a few minutes with a text message at the top of the screen. Even if you can't understand Japanese, you should be able to make out the magnitude number (I thought last night was a 3).
  20. Quote: do hotcakes actually sell really well? Wafflehouses throughout the US are still doing well while people continue to line up for crepes in Japan.
  21. Quote: And don't lots of cars here in Japan have silly brand names. I'm sure I saw one called "Elsie" the other day. What about Nissan's "Fairlady Z"? Nice looking little sports car, but I didn't think it would be too popular with straight men outside of Japan. Usual when they market a car in the US, they have to give it a more masculine name like "Horsecock" or "Babykiller 250xl" or some such nonsense. Apparently they're selling like hotcakes thanks to their sales strategy of "lust then love" : Fairlady
  22. I have to agree with Cheeseman. We used to love having fried spam with Kraft Macaroni & Cheese when I was younger. Not too nutritious, but a good bargain meal. Not too sure if I'd order that now, though...
  23. The shit/balls analogy can be carried even further: "Dat's da bizalls!" or "Damn! She's bizallzy cute! what? what?"
