lorne replied to scouser's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
a good dump.... YEEEEEEEAAAAAAA!!! umare kuwatta! -
Slow, will you still get sleepy at 18:30? I hope not.... it would be hard to as... you prob wont be able to have a beer anywhere near the main dance floor - or smoke a Ciggy(disgusting though it is! - (cigs make me gouchy and tired)) so you should be OK! 18:30... Really! I guess putting a concert on at that time really does seperate the REAL fans from the stragglers...Have a good time all that go..

3 lines in Superpipe?
lorne replied to OUfreeski2's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
OK, so where are the super pipes? - I want to ride one... I hear they're good for beg's and advanced..... Apparently there's one near Yuzawa area? BTW, Asagi has 5 lollipops -numbered 1 - 5 at the top of the pipe, you queue by your loli - and when the rotation gets to you you go! - better than the ole skating of the ramps - droping in and snaking people.... etc, etc... -
Caught up in an avvie
lorne replied to xxx's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Thank god no... but we had a close cause - a cartoon style crack apearing in front of me - in the direction of the line i was taking - hence the rest of the slope (below the line - riding toe edge regular) dropped away in front of me -pretty scary - and glad we used caution - i.e one at a time accross the potential hazard area - diving from tree zone to tree zone... if we hadnt of used that caution one of us would likely have been buried for sure... - btw this was in the back valley of Tanigawa-dake 2 or 3 years ago - the year before a lady got buried and killed on the long green run at Tanig -

Yes Yobo, the snows been on and off - got a good base now - thanks for the heavens sent 2 weeks ago..- not much for the last week - its shocking how quickly the snow starts to disapear if there is no top up and a sunny day... just been the light dusting (on and off) down at the Asagai level (900m) regular for the last week... we usually find a light dusting (1-4cm) at 900m means 5 to 15 or 20cm up the top of kags. no dumpings on the forecast for this weekend - but looking at the laws of averages(and not at the satelite picture) I'd guess the area'd be in for a good dump next week, I know I -

Shovel, Probe, Beacon.....Combi kit? - ie - lightweight backpack-shovel-probe kit - any recommendations on whats best? If anyone thinks they got the best kit then can they list it for us? Talking shovels - I get from some that plastic is inaffective (time consuming) & from others that metal is to bulky....who's got the best shovel? Are there any other emergency tools/gadgets that you can use in case you take a dive in a
