Giving up other things

skiing season and binge drinking season are in different parts of the year - although I would rather be hungover in the cold than the heat. -
Travelling from HOKKAIDO to TOKYO
jared replied to RBpower's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Assuming your coming from oz and you dont want to go to Tokyo you should have got your flight to Sapporo when you got your flight to japan, when I came last time the travel agent found the cheapest way to get me from NZ to Sapporo was via Osaka rather than Tokyo. -

If you hadent gotten any since last march and had been snowboarding alot it would make the decision much harder, It depends how much you have been getting of each in the recent past. -

Back flips are not hard to do, just hard to convince yourself to try, if DB finds a nise jump into pow and trys to do it I have no dought that he would get it after a couple of attempts. It is also pretty hard to do damage to yourself into steep pow - even head first. -
Thats a hellavalot of stuff you take. But you should also take a shovel in your car incase the resort is closed because of strong winds at the top of the gondolas and you are forced to build a kicker for your entertainment and then after 2 hours of building the biggest best jump you have ever made the lifts start operating and the ski patrol come and tell you that you have to break down your jump becoase the resorts open now and people will "copy your trick" and break themselves but you ask nisely and he lets you hit the jump for an hour or two if you dont let anyone elece use it before you h

from Kitakami shinkansen station there is a subsidised bus that will cost you 200yen that will take you to geto (40mins) I assume but dont know that there are plenty of busses from Morioka station to resorts like Appi, Shizakuishi, Hachimantai etc..or there might be another train that will take you closer. -
Who designs resorts?

Thats just one of the jobs you never think of - like being a power station broker, I met one onece in Niseko, If you need to buy or sell a power station he's your man. -
After feeling left out of a rather similar thread for snowboarders I decided to start my own. What are you skiing on, why and do you rate them? Im on a pair of Dynastar Candides, why? they were on sale and I wanted twins, and so far I rate them, they kick my old bandits arse, since iv had them snow conditions have been too firm to comment on pow but they are a bit wider than my old skis though not super wide so they should be ok, im not expecting miricales from a parkish kinda ski though - they havent built a park at geto yet and its been a bit icey to build jumps of my own. anyway - and

As always it takes a bit to decipher what info comes from where and how reliable it is. I would have assumed that the new snow records that come from the resorts would over estimate how much they really have but the 2cm of new snow at geto today was about knee deep - now im home the depth on the report says 16 cm which is still very conservative. As long as they are consistant ill know what they mean in the future. -
Lame question??
jared replied to Josh's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
dont feel lame, I spent 3 months there and cant name much more than a couple of places but Im pretty sure I got almost everywhere I could without walking too much to get there (though I had to walk back enough) -

Even if you land perfictly on your skis is it still quite a slap? What sort of height do you get ie is it like jumping of a 3m diving board or a 5m or what? & are the rental skis twins? -

OK have fun crashing. Barok, are you sure that the uphill person has right of way? Does that mean I can straight line it from the top and everyone should give way to me? I'm sure that cant be right. -

Well at least we wouldnt meet by swaping insurance details at the hospital. Anyone who delibrately crashes into someone elece deserves to injure themselves. -

Can you really expect a beginner to 1) know who should give way 2) be able to get out of the way. Crashing into someone cos they "should" give way when you have the ability to avoid the crash seems pretty F'ing stupid to me I hope the next person who does that breakes their leg. (just to clarify, the leg of the person who choose to crash into the learner cos they didnt get out of the way)
