  1. Maybe quite a few reasons. Of course a popular and active forum is a good reason for more people to keep on coming back and join in themselves, and that probably has a lot to do with the continued increase over the last year or so. It seems lots of people suddenly decide to register and start posting after only reading the forum for (literally) years. It would be interesting to know what makes them do that As they do that, all the time we are getting new people coming to the site for the first time as our readership continues to increase rather quickly - poor, tired, Mr Band
  2. Over the last month, some more Places to Stay near popular ski/board resorts have been added to the pages of Snow Japan. Take a look at some of the new additions, as well as the full listing which can be found here. As always, if you do contact any of the Places to Stay, please support us by mentioning SnowJapan.Com. 3. BigSausage You are right, in reality actually only a very small % of people who log onto and read the SJ Forums actually post messages here. That is pretty much the 'norm' for online forums, by all accounts. Interestingly, the increase in activity on the forums almost directly reflects the increase in popularity of the site in general. ie. the % of people using the forums who actually join in and post hasn't really altered that much in the last few years (an actual slight increase). The forums have seen a big increase in activity last season and even more this year, reflecting

  7. It was a bit nervewracking doing an interview on the telephone in Japanese, but it went well I think. Thanks for listening in, joshnii - are you actually in Niigata city then?
  8. Thanks joshnii. I didn't actually know it was going to be in the paper today, and only found out on the way to the office this morning when a local came up and told me to look in the paper! We've done a few interviews with Japanese newspapers and magazines and so hopefully there will be more publicity coming up. Andrew
  9. About the spelling of Hakkoda... We are in the process of changing the spelling of the resort name throughout our site, and most of this work has now been done. There are a few areas remaining which still need to be seen to, and they will be completed soon. We do ask that if you think you find a mistake, or just see something that you feel needs to be changed, then please email us directly at editor@snowjapan.com - we will then look into the issue and see to it if that is needed. Whilst we do check posts on the Forum, sometimes a point can be overlooked. A direct email to us on subject
  10. Yes it is a bit quieter than usual on the Forums during this period - pretty much a pattern that is similar to other years. People are on holiday, out enjoying themselves, out on the slopes, or just no time to post (just reading - still a lot of that going on). You'll most likely see posting levels get back to "normal" (!) and maybe more in the first week of January. In the meantime have a great holidays and all the best for the New Year. SnowJapan.Com

  14. Its a good one, isn't it. It is actually on our pages as well, here: http://www.skijapanguide.com/2002/daily-reports/webcam/nagano/hakubapanorama.html Thanks
  15. Thank you enderzero. As we said, the possible ways our readers can help and support us is: a) spreading the word about the site by telling other people about it (E and J versions of course); and helping out with possible introductions to potential sponsors/advertisers. Anyway, have a good weekend!
  16. Snowbeds can be found here: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/hotel/viewhotel.php?hotid=6 Please do mention Snow Japan if you contact them! Thank you
  17. The other thread got closed not because of your question - which we neglected to address, sorry - but because of the weather reporting/Now page accuracy issues. deebee, you seem to have found us out! But alas, Mr Cheeseman has nothing to do with us at all. We do hope though that his comments will turn a bit more "on-topic" over the coming weeks As for revenue for our operation. As you might expect, we are not going to go into the details of our business, but a simple explanation.... Snow Japan is part of a web design company owned and started by the creator of the or

  20. http://www.myoko-kogen.or.jp/winter.html Part open. Gondola and numbe3 lift. You will see their website also says 50cm. Just FYI, the information concerning snow depths that is presented on these pages comes to you, in effect, from the resorts themselves. So hopefully none of them are lying. Unfortunately, we don't have 600 correspondents willing to go out a few times a day with a big measuring stick to measure the snow for us, and then update the information online Have a good weekend.
  21. RESORT REVIEWS: http://www.snowjapan.com/e/voice/review.php In an effort to make the resorts reviews section of the site as useful and informative as possible for everyone, a few changes have been made. From now when you send in a resort review, you will have the chance to enter 'DATE VISITED' and 'SNOW CONDITIONS' on the submit form. If you do write text for these entries, it will appear on the review page for everyone to see in the listing. Now nearly 650 resort reviews are online - we hope that there will be many more added in the coming weeks and months. Check it o

  24. You asked for it, and it was a good idea. So we've developed it. From now on, on the NOW! pages and the MEMBER PAGES of Snow Japan, if you click on an image the original sized image in all it's (possible) glory will appear in a popup window. So make the most of it by uploading pics to your member pages! We recommend around a maximum of 500 by 375 pixel size for images and ask that this facility is not abused by uploading huge MB images - keep them down below 100K please, and as small as possible. We will be deleting any unnecessarily large photos. (PS if the image that appears
