I'm interested to know if anyone is still using film cameras here? Digital cameras have really taken off in a big way the last few years and I don't know anyone using film. What do pro photographers think of digitals?

Thanks folks. I took a look at those Sony ones yesterday - look good. Certainly more attractive than the small shuffle thing which looks really cheap. Don't know if I really need the nicer looking one will give it some thought. Whats Sonic Stage like?

I'm looking to buy a small (fairly cheap portable) music player but want to know what is available out there other than the ipod shuffle. I want it for jogging and generally to be small and portable (ie. smaller than a normal ipod) Any first hand experience pointers anyone to help with my research on what might be good? Thanks!

Does anyone else feel there is a lot of shouting going on in this country? From children, people making announcements, tv programs - I see to hear shouting everywhere. Gives me a headach. Where does this need to shout come from? I know when I was working at a school the kids seemed to be encouraged to talk really loud (bordering on shouting, especially at events). Is there a reason for it?

I am not keen at all on the slippers thing, it just seems so unhygenic to me. The few times I have been to places like that, I have gone to the onsen in my own so I know I'll come back in my own.

On Thursday night my extended family (all Japanese apart from me) went to stay in a large expensive Japanese style ryokan hotel. I had a really relaxing time and it was good to take lots of baths and generally get away from normal things. Just some thoughts: The very traditional Japanese set meal (kaiseki?) food looked beautiful, but I can only eat about 20% of it. I saw an inoshishi last season somewhere in Yuzawa at a ski resort (not on the slopes just at the entrance). The guys there said he was lost and most of them usually trek back to Gunma for the less harsh winters.

I'm sure you would. Not all of us have season passes and live 5 minutes from the slopes. It costs quite a lot of cash for lots of us and I can't afford to shell out that much and when I do I want good conditions.

Saw the extended version of King Kong last night. I enjoyed it more than I did in the theater on reflection. Good entertainment. Tons of stuff on the dvd as well.

Cold is better than hot I reckon. Tokyo and the like are unbearable in summer if you are not keen on hot and sweaty humid. Sapporo is cooler.
