We're going to go with this as it isn't expensive. The other benefits are good too, so will look forward to that. Interesting how none of the other rooms have any. We must just be extremely hot and heavy breathers that go beyond the capabilities of any man-made windows.

I wouldn't get too excited, though it's fine to get somewhat excited. We may well get a prolonged warm patch before the season really gets going.

He has just been for the 5th time. He always comes when she's not in. And she is still way too busy to be concerned about any of that. I kind of feel sorry for him. Well just a bit, as much as he annoys me. It must be an absolutely terrible job, with everyone disliking you.

We are very happy with the insulation in our house, the rockwool is stuffed in every conceivable wall and floor of the house, and how 'warm' - or perhaps I should say 'not cold' - mornings have been in our main rooms. We have been having some condensation on the windows in our bedroom though which is slightly annoying and less than the perfect that I have been striving for! I spoke with the builder about how to perhaps reduce that, and he mentioned a special offer in our region for double double glazing. Yes, a second set of double glazing. Apparently it's quite popular in Hokkaid

Amazing some of the things you 'hear'! For convenience, the resorts in Yuzawa (Niigata) win. The main station is just 80 minutes or so from Tokyo Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen bullet train. And you have decent places to choose from.

Yes that price per tsubo thing is just nuts. I remember my head being done in by it when we first discussed prices for our house. Nuts.

We have a gas boiler. DumbStickess insisted on having her stove for cooking, she can't do with electic only cooking. That was a huge deal for her.

Thats very cool snowdude. If it's only limited offer etc, I can imagine people being pissed off if they missed out on it. Different in our area where that sort of thing just doesn't seem to be available. Someone in our neighbourhood just had solar installed, and from what I gather it cost them over 3,000,000 yen outlay.

Another thing I'm digging. Our front door has this system called "Keygal" on it. Basically you don't need any keys. Just have the little remote thing on your person (about 5cmx3cm) - keep it in your pocket - and press "unlock" on the front door, and it unlocks. When you leave just press "lock" and it all locks up. It's a small thing but really cool, especially when you are carrying stuff.

That sounds good! Still find it mad you got that for free. No-one in these parts offers that, they offer if for hundreds of man! Perhaps the house prices reflect that, I suppose. After all, nothing's actually "free" is it. Certainly not something of that value.

All very interesting. I know in my situation, I'm just not interested in a fight and all of the effort and time and stress involved in that. If what they were asking were outrageous I might be somewhat more interested, but it would seem they are not so I'm just letting the lady deal with that side of things.

Would like to point out that this is very much not a gaijin thing. The lady is Japanese and she is the one dealing with this. (And paying for it!)

Do you run your onsen water around your house as a heat source? That would be great for the heating bills. It's still hot but not boiling. Good job really!

Totally agree. We are filling it up with new every day. I was just sort of wondering. All very interesting. Simple but a fantastic idea this bath thing.
