i started when i was fairly old (i dont remember the specifics, but definitely >12 probably more) and i truly wish i had started younger. my guess would be that kids could ski at a decent enough level to not be supervised when they are around 7 (however that isn't to say they should have supervision, but i mean they can hold their own on the skiis)

the whistler super park is pretty ridiculous dude, but not as insane as mammoth's one park. you could probably manage it as long as you are careful (just don't go in there and toss yourself off the bigger ones -- a buddy of mine hurt himself on his first run through the park, and then swore never to go back in!) besides, last year, it's not like the cracked down on their ratings. if they saw you were clearly not good enough to be there then they'd get you out, but i mean it's not like you had to throw a misty 720 to even be allowed in the park.
