I think it's the same as going to Hawaii where on US airlines the flog you for some crazy amount per board.
  2. The athletes must be loving the crowds NOT.. The media can't go on about it as they are the one's that ran the massive scare campaign in the first place. I think the Aussie swim team came to late and didn't have enough time to adjust to the diet.

My brother has also spent a few years more than half an hour drive from the beach, and he reckons it almost killed him...he likes to surf every day on his way home from work if possible. He wont be more than 15 minutes drive from
  4. Sure GN & MB, I agree with people needing to lower their standards but sometimes location can go against you. In the coastal spot where we are if you can find a 2-3bdr x1 for under $350k you are doing well (especially if you are looking for a single title, stuff living in an apartment, have done that in Japan). I could easily afford a house in Casino which is a few hours inland for well under that $350k (actually, could probably get 2 for $350K) but I'm not willing to move all that way to a dust bowl just to be able to get into the market.. Stuff that.
  5. My bro spent a long time there in 2000 and ended up getting Cerebal malaria. Some wicked waves & he had thoughts of setting up surf camp & now look at the place! I'm only going back to Bali for a wedding next year otherwise I probably wouldn't go. Got to get to Pohnpei... Fast!

  7. I don't see property being a great investment ATM. (of course there are always a few exceptions) But.. Yields are low and in many areas I think it will be unrealistic to see much capital growth. People are still buying thinking that they are going to get a bug CG in a short time. Reality is we probably won't see it and you will be better off investing in other areas that can grow your money until growth returns. Yeah, you can get a tax deduction but it costs you to get it. Not many people would invest in a company's shares is it was going to remain flat for 5 - 10 years, but they still do it
  8. You have to do the whole 2 hr vid thing if it's your first time renewing.
  9. GN, who are you going through to get the loan? I know a few of the Aussie bank Japan branches offer them. I'm still with you Mantas.. Actually, around here it's cooled off a little but a long way to go.
  10. I went to the big rego place and you get it done in a few hours. I had another choice to do it at a larger police station but that was going to take a week.

The way I see it, I can always get a visa as long as I have my wife and I think now, the benefits for us now that we live here would be that we could use the rail passes etc when we visit japan. SU

  13. Sheesh! That's a big gun mantas! My biggest is 7'2 which was out last week but it was built for Indo so it is pretty sharp. At the mo' My quiv is 6'0 fish, 6'3, 6'5, 6'6, 6'10 & 7'2. Never ride the 6'3 & trying to get rid of the 6'5 as it has been made redundant! 6'10 is a hybrid/fun board and really want to replace it with a similar shape to my Emery 6'6. I am guessing BM has those monsters for those regular 2ft days that Japan has so many of!
  14. I used to surf Omaezaki all the time. Can be a good place but I am guessing to big for 4m! There are a few good spots in Shizunami but how about some of those rivermouth's around the area...
  15. BM, I saw that you guys were expecting a pretty big spike in the swell. I hope you can find somewhere protected! (Where in Shiz are you?)
  16. Yeah was handling it ok but the sweep was incredibly strong and the direction too south to get really good up here. I was going to go out but watched it for 1hr and only 2 waves ridden. The solid 6ft closeout straight of the jump off rock made it a very hard task!
  17. Nice Mantas.. A few from here early this morning Note the guy pulling off!
  18. Doh! Hasn't really kicked in here yet. Surfed this morning, was about 2-5ft. Very inco.. Tomorrow might be the day but might be better suited to a fish in the lake! Hope those feet cuts aren't too bad,.
  19. Yeah, Gods, Occy's same place. My bro is staying at the resort for his honeymoon, but I couldn't give that guy my money, not for all the shit he tried on us. Got the big boards out here too mantas. Should kick in tomorrow arvo but was filling in a bit. The point might be the only option but getting out there at 10 ft and getting around the sweep might be the biggest problem! I am thinking about north of here for session at a protected corner. froth on!
  20. Spook, we did a trip up there around Panaitan. I was actually meant to go do a stint on "Just Dreaming" as a guide but the guy sold his boat just before the season started. We surfed it at about 3-6ft a few times abd it was as hairy as hell. Wore a wetty every surf, even almost went the helmet! Illusions was a good wave but more wet season winds needed (I think...) Mantas, I've done Sumba a few times, one place I would love to get back to. Only problem is that if you go to the cheaper surf camps you are pretty much only in front of one wave.. Too much distance between breaks unless you
  21. One palm is mental. Pretty fickle though. Rubber is a must. Doesn't get much coverage these days due to the northern neighbors, but heaps of good waves around..
  22. Kintaro, I have a PR and I have been told by the Japanese Consulate here that it will expire with my re entry permit. As I don't expect to live in Japan again I really don't see the need to keep it. Are there any benefits that you could think of? I can't think of any really.
  23. I left because I wanted to pursue a "real" career. I'll go back for visits & may do a short stint someday but would be hard to leave the awesome surf I have come back to..
