Yeah but ivo, one of those people waiting in the line will be YOU. -

Well I'll be damned... -
I forgot to mention...

Nozawa only plays music in one spot, and so quietly you can't really tell what it is. Everywhere else is quiet. Oh, except for those hilarious announcements where they say 'A Forum snowboard with many stickers has been mistakenly taken from Zone A, and we have here a very inconvenienced customer. Would you please check your board and see if it isn't a Forum board with stickers all over it' ie, matey's had his board stolen and is going to have to buy a new one, and maybe a lock this time. -

danz, aye to that. Also it might stop some of this stepping on one's ride that goes on in these chaotic cowpens. -
Gala this Saturday pack??
Ocean11 replied to NormanTok's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Won't be too bad I should think. Even over New Year when everyone was on holiday, the skijos weren't crowded. No lift wait longer than about 4 min, if that. -
Question: Lift in Japan
Ocean11 replied to a topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Well to answer this earnest questionning, I'd probably say that either the Japanese are cheap and don't care how your tired feet feel, or otherwise it's the anzen daiichi, or Japan is safety country. Could these things possibly be a hazard? Could someone conceivably get their ride stuck and be dismembered by the chair as it passes over them? I dunno, but I speck it's one or t'other. -
Snowboarding trip to Hakkuba
Ocean11 replied to a topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
You can get between Tokyo and Osaka in about 2 hr or less by shinkers. Long walk though. -

Coupla kids got lost out of bounds at Hakuba last night and spent the night outdoors. On the news it looked like hell up there with TOO much snow. The local news took a nicely one-sided view of out of bounds boarding and had my missus clucking in agreement. -
snobee, that's more like it! Some substance there. Actually, there's bias and discrimination against snowboarders, hence this discussion. Some ski places place effective fines on snowboarders, some have never let them in, and some have recently stopped letting them in. And the news reports say that it is for the 'safety of families' wooo-o-o Snowboarder Eats Baby. Well the reality of it is this - I've never run into a skier, even as a rank beginner, but plenty of skiers, flash w@nkers who ought to know better, have run into me (they always come off worse too, knees twisting in all s

Got protection?
Ocean11 replied to Ocean11's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
To protect your rear orifice, I suppose you could try taping your bum-cheeks together with duct tape. But you'd have to remember to peel it off before getting into the onsen... Most pix I've seen of jumpers show them in flight with no protection on whatsoever. Young and foolish, the lot of them. -
Question: Lift in Japan
Ocean11 replied to a topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Never seen one of them. Unless it was a very smooth and clean bar, I wouldn't want to be resting my board on it anyway. I usually hook my right foot under my board as I don't like it hanging down. Notice the way even quad lifts leave the bottom with just one rider even when there's a long line forming. 'Shiranai hito bakkashi dakkara sa'. -
And hey, nothin's to stop you wearing your purple, yellow, green, red and turquoise spatter pattern suit when you snowboard if you've already gotten one for skiing... Sorry, am I getting boring here? Saw a girl skiing the other day with bunny ears on ... real cute ... she could use them for snowboarding too I suppose.

Riding switch
Ocean11 replied to powpow's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Super Model is the coolest name for a snowboard though ain't it? Having fallen down in the powder, I wouldn't fancy trying to turn over with such a big board on or dig 181 cm of board out of the snow. Nor would I want to try sneaking out of the house at 5 am with a board that big. Crash, crunch, squeee, 'Where do you think you're going?!' -
clipping lift tix?
Ocean11 replied to spired's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I'm interested to know what they would do if you refused to deal with them - like 'No, I won't take my helmet off, no, I won't speak to you, and no, you can't touch my ticket'. Anybody got any experience of this sort of thing? -
Got protection?
Ocean11 replied to Ocean11's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
ivo, I see. Those would've been good for my mate who caught his right buttock in a slide and ripped himself a new a-hole. Other than bad luck rareties like that though, aren't these kind of pants really for beginners who keep sitting down hard? -
Actually, snobee, what's inane is poking your ugly head into somebody's discussion and criticizing, without grace or humour. Why not save yourself the effort of posting until you actually have something to add? If you hadn't noticed, skiers and snowboarders have contributed some interesting and heartfelt thoughts on this subject, and this issue is being 'debated' by those_ski_resorts_that have chosen to exclude snowboarders. Have yourself a very_significant_day.

It's a well-known resort in Naggers. The locals call it Nozawa, but I'm British. -

What are protection pants ivo? I wished I'd been wearing a box last weekend at Nozzle. I skidded on my front turn in shallow powder and my crotch hit a mini-mogul. Hurt like a bastard.
