Fattwins is right. There are some lifts that are really not needed (e.g. Karasawa, Mizunashi) and it won't be a problem if they didn't operate them this season. But what if they close Challenger and Yamabiko on weekdays?

Go to the Jinbocho/Ochanomizu area in Tokyo where you will find store after store stuffed from the first floor to the top with winter gear.

There are only half and full day passes in Nozawa. The morning pass is good until 1pm, the afternoon ticket from noon until the lifts close.
