  1. Are you locals suggesting that theres no need to book until closer to Jan, Feb?, Flights out of Australia nearly every day, every day out of Gold Coast. I guess holidays from work have to be sorted.. Plus its exciting planning trips to your wonderful country. I live in the beach/surf/theme park capital of Australia, I dont need to book here either, just go off to the beach when ever I like. I guess you feel if you want the best places to stay you need to book as soon as you can. I did notice that during the week I was in Goryu it was pretty quite out at night.. Maybe we can leave it til lat
  2. As mentioned we did stay at Goryu and the forest was nice and the restaurants within the forest great. I dont want to go to the same place again even as nice as it was. I am hooked on Japan, just want to find a place where we can be on the snow. Not after party, although love a beer, feed and a chat..lol Yuzawa has some on snow options (Iwappara) but looks like eat in. I guess theres always Nozawa?
  3. we stayed at Goryu last season, thats just as far the other way I think from hakuba. Just want a place where i can leave my wife skiing on the beginner slopes while I go off for a bit of exploring. So she can go back to the room for a break.. I assume they have eating places and an bar..
  4. looks great for my wife, all links for acc, seem to go to Hakuba area, Im looking for on snow or close to snow acc. Are the back runs ok for a intermediate?
  5. Looks like a good spot, but cant find much accommodation, but pics I have seen shows lots of buildings, are they all pvt? Looks good for beginners, or am I missing something?
  6. thanks for the info, happy for a short walk, and a small choice of eateries would be fine, without needing a car. Akakura Onsen in Myoko, seems interesting. We love the chance to try out the different foods, and atmosphere's .. Id just feel better if my wife was not waiting for me during the day. I was hoping that her skiing would have been ok enough to join me, but , may take a few more trips. I will look at all the suggestions.. Thanks
  7. January this year was our first ski trip to Japan, we spent 7 days at Goryu. Goryu was great but just looking for another area to try FEb 2015 and that also has ski in and ski out pensions. I am intermediate groomer( didnt get a chance to try out powder) wife is a nervous beginner. Wife loved going out for dinner at night rather than staying in for dinner. My research has come up with Myoko Kogan, Madarao. Nozawa sounds great but the ski fields area seem a bit far from acc. I want to go off skiing for the day, knowing my wife is close to acc, so she can go back and forth to th
  8. sorry if this is a bit boring for all you powder hounds,BUT.. my best day was the last day at Goryu in Jan this year. The lodge owner invited me for a sunrise ski on the front run under lights. Lined up in the dark for a lift ticket and made our way to the top of the run to watch the sunrise. Fantastic view but best of all, I had the best ski runs for the whole week. Found out I wasnt such a bad skiier after all.. I had found the snow quite heavy during the week on all runs not able to ski the run with out stopping a few times. What a difference getting the first runs in, I was able to get 5
  9. sad about your best friend. I had a best friend for 15yrs . Im sure they have checked, but just saying , my dog had a similar problem, I found a tick on her. They cause the same symptoms. But we are in SubTropical climate.in Australia.... Hope things work out..

I will post a review of my trip over the coming days. By the way whats a skijo? Sorry I meant Happo one, realised after I posted what a dick i sound like..ha. no need to comment.Didnt realised Id hurt it at the time, Caught my right pole with a ski, crash bang thud. heres a tip , dont strap into the poles.
  13. I willing to give it another chance, your right the Japan experience helped. I did find the snow a bit disapointing, very chopped up and fell and hurt my wrist on the first day catching a pole with my ski..crash...
  14. Hi David, maybe Im the one who your waiting on. Unfortunately on the first day of our trip, while skiing, we stayed at Goryu, I injured my wrist. Managed to ski at Goryu on the bottom slopes but was in a lot of pain so I didnt get the chance to ski at Happo one, i instead handed the voucher over to a couple from our lodge who where heading over there for a day. My deepest apologies. I can ask the couple for a review if you like , I have their email addy.If a review of Goryu and surrounds is any help I will gladly do that. Manfred
  15. My wife and I arrived at Goryu on Sunday 19th Jan 2014, light snow for the first 2 days then nothing until the day we left 7 days later. Not what I had expected BUT, we had the best friggen holiday of our lives. We loved the valley, friendly people, food, lack of crowds, the guy sweeping the chairs every time we got on a lift, local train rides, the elderly women who made sure we where ready when the train arrived and that we stood at the right spot on the platform to take us from Goryu to Hakuba, and who we then bumped into at the supermarket and came up to us with a big smile before she left and
  16. Hi all , just returned from my first trip to Japan/Goryu. I am a skier, comes with my age. I didnt see one accident caused by a snow boarder in the 7 days, saw two wayward boards without passengers enjoying a free run. Didnt have any personal issues with any snowboarders at all. Blocking the top of the lift exits and parking in the middle of the runs on their bums maybe the only small thing. One thing I did notice was the snow seemed to be more "chewed" up than I remember when the snow boarders didnt make up 60-80% of the riders. That could be just be me Im sure but that were my thoughts. I mu
