Just finished a test drive in an Outlander. Way more space inside than the X-Trail, and bigger engine. My wife liked it, maybe the pro Nissanness is wearing off.

As far as I can work out there is only one engine choice in Japan. A 2.0 litre petrol. given the weight of the X-trail it may be a bit gutless. Also not too impressed with the AWD part, can only be used under 40 km/h. However my Wife's family is so pro Nissan I might not have a choice in the matter. (some of the family didn't want to speak to us after we got the Subaru)

We are currently looking at new cars as well. While the Impreza is great, it seems to have shrunk a bit, either that or the kids are getting bigger. The idea was to replace it next winter, giving the Impreza to my Mother-in-law to replace her old car. However she had an accident on Wednesday, and needs a new car sooner. Currently looking at the new X-Trail, mainly because of the extra two seats, handy for visits to Osaka when there are 6 of us for dinner.

Try a free program called "Classic Shell". Haven't used it myself, but the users on a tech site I use recommend it. It turns your Win 8/8.1 O/S into a clone of Win 7.

That looks awesome. What a great way to spend two weeks. -
My father in law also died this Feb, lung cancer from smoking. Not sure why anyone would choose to smoke, especially after seeing the damage it causes.

I've read that the BRZ is setup a bit stiffer than the 86. There are also a few more model options with the 86.

Our navi is updated by downloading a program from the net, installing it on a computer. Run the program and install new maps onto a memory card. Memory card goes into navi and update done. (well that's how it's meant to work, installing onto memory card keeps failing for us)

Re credit cards, work out were you would use it the most. Then see if where ever that is has it's own card. Lots of the big shops, telecos etc have their own branded cards which can get you a discount when using it in store.

Before worrying too much about space for skis think about how many days you actually ski vs how many days you will use the car. May be a "cheaper" option to get a small sports type car and just courier your skis to and from the ski fields.

Car Navis I've seen at autobacs were cheaper than ones at car dealers.

I can remember when Married with Children first came out in NZ. It was on before The Simpsons, not sure if the TV people thought it was "tamer" than The Simpsons. A lot of very funny moments on the show. Well worth watching.
-
Most Navis are also able to play CDs and DVDs. Some will also connect to an ipod or play mp3 files from a USB drive.
-
Car Navi is an extra. Car comes with a nice empty hole in the dash. You get to choose what goes in.
-
Although the BRZ isn't AWD, it's only 2WD. But who cares, it looks cool, handles great and snow tires aren't that much extra.
-
There is more to the sticker price. Well there was when we brought our new Subaru a couple of years back. It didn't end up being a large chunk more. From memory about 300,000 yen more. That was over and above all the extras we got. With new cars in Japan even floor mats are an extra.

Have to agree with the "Postmaster General" all your requirements scream Subaru, probably Impressa, as the BRZ hasn't been around long enough to have not too expensive second hand models. A WRX would suit the requirements, as long as you can find one without a ridiculously large spoiler.
