  1. I might save Kagura for after the opening of the romance chair (the highest chair lift that opens up a world of possibilities). Though I also like the long run to the bottom of Kagura and last time I went when the romance lift was open, it was closed. I do think Kagura is going to be crazy this weekend though... I'm thinking of going to Tenjin or Hodaigi to avoid some of the crowds, but nothing is set in stone yet.
  2. I'll right here's one. It is not a skijo, but when I was there I kept wishing I had my board. I wouldn't really want them to turn the place into a full on resort, but a tasteful sized skijo with a few nice long runs would be awesome in this area.
  3. No one else try for this one I realllly want it!!! I always just buy Kagura lift tickets because I prefer it to Naeba and it is big enough by its self, but I've always wanted to ride the Dragondola, just to see what all the fuss is about.
  4. If you are a beginner, maybe not worth going for riding alone (the views do make up for it though). The on course riding is decent but short except for a long run to the bottom. For the advanced rider with av gear there are some truly amazing runs that lead back to the long course to the bottom, just have to be careful of the river at the bottom of the runs. For the more casual advanced rider there are also some beautiful valley and ridge line runs that also lead back to the course and don't require all the av gear (though never a bad idea). The snow is also amazing. It gets some of the most c
  5. Probably 98% of the people who climb the mountain are doing just that. They may come back to the skijo and board/ski after that, but most are there to climb the mountain. I have seen a couple of lines coming off the peak on the left in the first pic from this thread, but I would be scared to try it. The av danger is probably low, but if it went I don't anything would save you.
  6. Tenjin doesn't even have that many people on weekends let alone weekdays. You can also print a coupon of their website for 3,000 yen full day pass! The only negative about Tenjin is the previously mentioned notoriously slow rope way, but I think the positives outweigh the negatives. First skijo I ever went to in Japan and still one of my favorites
  7. I'm so unbelievably jealous I've been staring at Tanigawa and Hotaka the last view days contemplating faking a flu to get my self up there! I might have even climbed Tanigawa in the morning and boarded in the afternoon. Beautiful pics! every time I go to Tanigawa I send your links to my family to show them how beautiful it is. Thank you!!!!
  8. I'm definitly not the best person to write that report (Though I did go for a beautiful backcountry run with a skilled Japanese rider this year). I don't have av gear and I have a kid, so I'm trying to be smarter about where I ride. I do have a story of peril, determination and survival that I will be posting some time soon. I guess the preview would be me stuck in a sawa (gorge) somewhere outside of the ski resort boundery of Tenjin.
  9. Rain in early February and even if it does snow at high elevations, it will be that heavy sticky stuff. maybe I will go out in the afternoon on Sunday.......
  10. I think you are mixing me up with someone else. I'm a JHS teacher. but I do have a 6 month old daughter.
  11. I've been staring out the window at Mt. Hotaka and Kawaba skijo all day wishing I was there. It seems like one of those days where you can see the the north and south alps as well as Fuji from the skijo. It has also been snowing like crazy the past few days, so the snow was probably amazing this morning . To all of you who got to the mountain today, I am extremely jealous. That said, feel free to tell me all about it pics would also be welcome.
  12. You live in Chiba? I'm up in Gunma and board alone way to often. If your in the area (Any of the Gunma resorts or Yuzawa) let me know.
  13. Tenjin is pretty slow compared to that speed racer Hakaisan ropeway. On the bright side it's usually not very crowded so you can relax or strech a bit on the trip up. The views are also pretty good on a nice day.
  14. I'm thinking Tenjin, Hodaigi or Kagura on Saturday. Haven't really made up my mind though.
  15. I was reading the weather report for Tenjindaira and noticed that a full day ticket is marked as 5,000 yen while a half day is 3,500. It is actually 3,500 for a full and 2,500 for a half. Is this an OK way to report this?
